Growing your expertise in literacy does not have to mean putting your career on hold.

The online Advanced Certificate in Literacy Specialist at Pace University is designed with working educators in mind. Many students complete the program in as little as three semesters, while others choose a part time schedule that fits alongside teaching, family, and other commitments.

However you move through the program, the goal is the same: helping educators build the knowledge and confidence to support stronger readers and writers in every classroom.

At first glance, it looks like these second graders from Tarrytown are simply on their computers. Look closer—and you’ll see something far more meaningful: they’re engaged in a virtual tutoring session with first and second-year college students from Professors Musti and Sipos’s TCH 201 course. 📚✨

Through this civic engagement partnership, learning flows both ways—building skills, confidence, and connections across classrooms and communities. 💻🤝

Isabella Durso ’26, an honors student in the School of Education, has already achieved so much—and she’s just getting started.

After completing her initial certification and continuing on to the fifth-year Special Education program, Isabella will begin a doctoral program at Tufts in Fall 2026.

At Pace, she worked closely with mentor Fran Falk-Ross, PhD, and authored an outstanding research paper, “In the Room or Down the Hall: Rethinking Occupational Therapy Access and Instructional Alignment,” which was selected for presentation at the American Educational Research Association (AERA) this April.

Congratulations, Isabella! 🌟
