Meet Our Keynote!

We are thrilled to welcome Jo-Marie Kasinak as the keynote speaker for the 2026 SENEME Annual Fall Conference: A Slice of the Sound!

Jo-Marie is an aquatic ecologist and Assistant Teaching Professor at Sacred Heart University, where her work brings together research, education, conservation, and hands-on field experiences.

🦀 She is the Director of Project Limulus, a long-term, large-scale study of horseshoe crab populations in Long Island Sound. Through Project Limulus, Jo-Marie and her team bring science directly into the community through beach walks, educational programs, research experiences, and opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in real-world science.

Her impact extends far beyond our local shores. Jo-Marie also serves as Education Co-Chair for the IUCN Species Specialist Group for Horseshoe Crabs, helping advance horseshoe crab conservation and education around the world.

As an educator, researcher, mentor, and advocate for hands-on science, Jo-Marie embodies so much of what SENEME is about — connecting people to our marine environments through experiences that inspire curiosity, understanding, and stewardship.

We can't wait to hear from her on October 3! 🌊🦀
