Market driven solutions are not what we need they lead to hybrid hazelnuts which contract diseases in 2-3 years at best in this region, diseases endemic to the east coast, poorly researched market driven behavior nothing more.
Planting vast acres of monocultures of hybrid hazelnut and hybrid chestnuts is not regenerative. People thinking there is something valiant about showing spreadsheets of profits from monoculture industrial tree farming , often of ill suited genetics that will die out in 6-10 years, with no good plan for maintaining them, using herbicides for establishment and maintenance, is a moral travesty.
Gee, I am so surprised you can make money! ...doing ecologically destructive, half baked versions of good idea. But please do not try to delude yourself or anyone else that these monocultures of hybrids grown with herbicides are an ecological system or anything like what we can intelligently agree to be the definition of Regenerative or a Permaculture Forest Garden Ecosystem. They are so far from it, it is insulting to have that term even affiliated with these endeavors.
Planting out hundreds and thousands of acres with two or three species of trees and shrubs, cheek to jowl, monocultures at a industrial scale, using petro-chemicals is polluting and destructive, by no means are these activities helping with climate chaos, they are in fact making it worse. These are nothing more than extractive, business as usual, monstrosities, aberrations, driven by profits before people and the planet.
Don't be hoodwinked by the bluster behind this multi-billion dollar propaganda machine being rolled out by the likes of TNC under the aegis of "climate smart" carbon sequestration initiatives. These projects do no ecological footprint accounting behind these claims.
My friends this is where market driven solutions will get us, nothing better than a "green" rendition of the corporatocracy.
We need an entirely new system, put simply one which puts the health of the people, our Earth and future generations far and above profits for corporations and the families of the Robber Barons. An economy where we tax appropriately for letting the private sector use our public commons, our air, our water ,soil and endemic biodiversity Taxing at the rate, of pre-Reagan days all individuals and enterprises making millions or more, at above 70-80%,-https://www.wolterskluwer.com/en/expert-insights/whole-ball-of-tax-historical-income-tax-rates - than then these things that we the people really need, not what the market needs, will be easy: all education is free, all health care is free, there is a strong universal basic income and paid paternity leave for 2 years, a 4 day work week with a 6 hour day on average and a focus on full diet year round food supply on a regional basis and decentralized appropriate renewables.
My upcoming book release- Earth Is Our Home ; is focused on articulating for you my understanding of the pattern, and some details , of what this triple bottom line economy actually looks like, emerging from a people centered and place based design approach.
