A neuroscience-based approach to individual flourishing, modern leadership, and organizational performance.

Is vulnerability a sign of strength or weakness?

In any moment, our brain is constructing our reality.

And it does so using our deeply embedded constructs, like… strong vs weak, hardworking vs lazy, or smart vs stupid.

These aren’t just ideas.

They’re idealized, moralized, and internalized by culture.

👉 The problem?

When we only ever frame things this way, we limit ourselves.

📌 But what if we reframed these constructs into something that gives us more flexibility and freedom.

This shift doesn’t just change how we see others, it liberates how we experience ourselves.

04/01/2025

🧠 “They’re so stupid.”

That throwaway comment reveals more than we think.

It suggests the person holds a construct, a mental lens, of “smart vs stupid.”

And if that’s their internal framework, then the brain is constantly filtering experience through it:

👉 “If I’m not being smart, then I must be stupid.”
👉 “If Karen isn’t smart, she must be stupid.”

That binary view doesn’t just shape opinions, it shapes experience.

It informs how we feel, how we act, and how we think.

That’s because the constructs we hold feed into the conceptual knowledge ingredient that our brain uses to construct our reality.

So if we want to change what we’re experiencing - emotionally, behaviorally, cognitively - we need to examine the constructs beneath it.

✨ Want more psychological freedom and flexibility?

Start by shifting your mental frameworks.

Your brain can only build from the ingredients you give it.

Curiosity is a superpower for coaches and leaders who want to facilitate transformational change.

🧠 All mental life is constructed from the combination of psychological primitives, managed by intrinsic brain networks.

That is where the opportunities are for helping people change.

Rapid, deep and lasting change.

The secret to deep transformational change…

We don’t experience the world as it is. We experience the world as we have constructed it to be.

Every day, our brain builds our reality using hidden mental frameworks—personal constructs—that define how we think, feel, and act.

And the game-changing opportunity is that they're not set in stone.

They can be redefined, reshaped, and reconstructed—unlocking entirely new ways of experiencing life.

That’s where transformational coaching comes in.

By working at the deepest level of the subjective and constructed nature of human experience, transformational coaching can create more than just behavioral change. It can rewrite the foundation of experience itself.

In the latest article, we explore:

✅ The science behind how our brain actively predicts and shapes reality.

✅ Why second-order change is the key to deep, lasting transformation.

✅ How to identify and reconstruct limiting personal constructs to break free from old patterns of thinking, feeling and acting.

PsychASSETS Certified Coach 08/13/2024

Are you an executive, leadership, or workplace coach? We're covering your tuition for this program.

Applications are now open for the PsychASSETS Certified Coach program, with the $1995 tuition covered by the BrainFirst Institute Education Grant.

We’re on a mission to help people understand and meet the psychological needs essential for us to thrive at work and in life.

And as part of our commitment to that mission, we've covering your tuition.

Research has shown that meeting our psychological needs increases motivation and engagement, enhances well-being and relationships, and improves productivity, performance and job satisfaction.

Conversely, when our brain detects threats to these needs it triggers a series of physiological and psychological reactions, including activation of the threat response characterized by increased adrenaline and cortisol levels.

This response can impair cognitive function, decision-making, and collaborative efforts in modern work environments, undermining our performance and effectiveness.

As a PsychASSETS Certified Coach you will be uniquely positioned as one of the few global providers who can assess individual psychological needs, with our scientifically-validated assessment, and offer a neuroscience-based coaching solution to help people thrive at work and in life.

We have 30 grants available, with 10 already approved.

Applications are open.

PsychASSETS Certified Coach PsychASSETS is a neuroscience-based approach to helping individuals, teams and organizations understand and meet psychological needs essential for thriving at work.
