BACKGROUND: JOHN WAYNE CAME TO MSC AS ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC RELATIONS. HE GRADUATED FROM OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY WITH A MASTERS IN SPORTS ADMINISTRATION. HE RECEIVED HIS BACHELORS IN SPORTS MANAGEMENT AT VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY.
JOHN WAYNE’S FOCUS ON ACADEMICS IS HIGHER THAN INDIVIDUAL OR TEAM GOALS, ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES, AND RECOGNITION OF EXCELLENCE HAS SHIFTED THE DEPARTMENT’S CULTURE TO REFLECT HIS FOCUS ON THE TOTAL STUDENT-ATHLETE.

Maine State College was founded in Portland Maine in 1946. Our mascot is the Portland Jaguars. Our a
John Wayne is the Director of Athletics at Maine State College. He is widely recognized among the leaders of his profession and has been named one of the most powerful people in collegiate sport.
He came to Maine State College as associate athletic director of academic relations. He graduated from Ohio State University with a masters. in Sports Administration. He also got his bachelors in Sport Management at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Wayne’s focus on academics is higher than individual or team goals, additional academic support services, and recognition of excellence has shifted the department’s culture to reflect his focus on the total student-athlete.
John and Sheila Wayne have four children: Matt, Nicole, Lindsey and Summer, and seven grandchildren: Marshall, Steele, Addison, Grayson, Tyson, Elijah, and Maya. John’s hobbies include golfing with his younger brother Taurian Wayne every Saturday before happy hour. On Sundays, he attends a missionary church with his family.
President of Maine State College Charles S. Grant
Grant became president in 1972 after his assistance with articulating the structure, design and setup of Maine State College. Grant’s duties consist of day by day operations and administrative activities. His specialties also include, operational functions of the university, overseeing all aspects of the business for the university.
At Maine State College, the institution has been flourishing by the amount of graduates each and every semester for the past 47 years.
As president of Maine State College Dr. Charles S. Grant, his desired goals are to provide a place of growth for the students of MSC giving them consistent opportunities to strive and utilize their specialties and talents academically, and athletically.
Dr. Charles S. Grant had won the City of Maine Good Citizen Award in 1978 due to his outstanding and incredible performance with running a university and community clean up. That following year Grant became the head chairman of the Department of Education in the Northeast Region.
Dr. Charles S. Grant is not only a president of this established university, but he is a down to earth citizen, husband and father of two kids Elena and Milton Grant. His wife's name is Olivia Grant.
New Season Outlook
We at Maine State College are looking forward to the new season at our school. We had a great last season we hope to have another. We have some new members that we are greeting to the team. Our students have created an organization to make our games livelier. We hope you enjoy our new arena. Make sure you get your season tickets to not miss out.
