The “bi” in the word bicep indicates two muscle heads. Biceps Brachii Short head = inner part, Long head is = outer part. In addition, there is a third muscle on the outer part of your arm. The brachialis also flexes your arm from certain angles & hand positions.

Hammer Curls vs Bicep Curls Body Mechanics.. Both of these exercises involve curling weight upwards using your biceps. The difference has to do with your hand position. Specifically, something called supination & pronation.
Palms up = supination (hold cup of “soup”)
Palms down = pronation
Neutral is in between (thumbs up).

Hammer curls, your hand is between supination & pronation, a neutral grip (palms inward like swinging hammer).

* SHORT HEAD
- Best worked with wide grip (wider than shoulder with) and arms in front of the body

* LONG HEAD
- Best worked with arms at side or BEHIND the body such as incline bench Dumbbell Curls where arms are lower than bench and shoulder width or narrower

* BRACHIALIS
- Best worked with arms at sides and pronated grip (thumbs in) or neutral grip (thumbs up).
