🇮🇹 Practice your Italian with a mini story!

Today I want to teach you a very useful Italian word that can mean three different things 🤯

It all started when I went to the supermarket and saw some beautiful flowers, so I decided to buy them 💐

In Italian, a bouquet of flowers is called un mazzo di fiori.

But here’s the interesting part… 👀

The word mazzo can also mean:
🔑 a bunch of keys → un mazzo di chiavi
🃏 a deck of cards → un mazzo di carte

Same word, completely different objects!

These are the kinds of words that can be confusing at first, but they also make Italian so fascinating to learn 🇮🇹✨

The more vocabulary you learn in context, the easier it becomes to understand how Italians actually speak in everyday life.

🇮🇹 Italian is full of words like mazzo that have meanings you’d never guess at first!

🇮🇹 Practice your Italian with a story!

Today I want to teach you a very interesting Italian word with a fascinating story behind it.

If you like frutta (fruit), you’ll definitely want to learn this one! 🍓🍑🍍

The word is macedonia, and it’s a word you’ll often find on Italian menus. But did you know there’s a historical reason why we use this word for a fruit salad? 👀

In this video, I’ll explain where it comes from and why Italians call a mix of fruits a macedonia.

Learning a language isn’t just about memorizing vocabulary. It’s also about discovering the stories, culture, and history hidden behind the words 🇮🇹✨

Now I’m curious… 🍓👇

What’s the BEST fruit in a macedonia, and which fruit would you remove forever? 😅

🇮🇹 Practice your Italian with a story!

Today I want to teach you a very useful Italian verb! 🌱💧

👀 In Italian the verb INNAFFIARE means “to water” (a plant).

This verb can be a little confusing for Italian learners because, unlike English, it doesn’t come from the word acqua (water)! 😄

Innaffiare is a super common verb that Italians use when talking about plants, flowers, or the garden! 🌿

You might hear people use ANNAFFIARE, which is exactly the same thing. In some areas of Italy INNAFFIARE is more common, in other areas you’ll hear ANNAFFIARE, but they’re both the same thing!

Watch the whole video to hear this verb in context and learn how to pronounce it correctly! 🇮🇹

Now I’m curious: How do you say INNAFFIARE in your language? 🧐

I have a small community online. Every week I share a reading in Italian (with the English translation), a quiz and some grammar. We call it the Italian Quiz Club 🇮🇹

Students from all over the world love it and the best thing is that it’s free!

🇮🇹 Practice your Italian!

🌸 Buona festa della mamma! 🌸

Today is Mother’s Day in Italy. We always celebrate on the second Sunday in May! ✨

When talking about dates, in Italian you need to use the masculine article following this structure: IL/L’+ (number) + (month).

For example:
Oggi è il 10 maggio

This is also a perfect chance to review Italian numbers!
1st - PRIMO
2nd - SECONDO
3rd - TERZO
4th - QUARTO
5th - QUINTO

When do you celebrate Mother’s Day in your country? ✍️ Let me know in the comments (in Italian 😉)
