šŸ™ PLEASE, please…. Do yourself a favor and do not take the Practice Management exam first!

The sequence you take the Architect Registration Exams in is so important! And I’m seeing some other ARE providers giving very poor advice.

āœ… PjM and CE have the highest pass rates, and are document-based exams, so you want to take those first, then PcM which is more difficult. The other 3 are more technical. PPD should be taken last or second to last, because it’s the most difficult exam.

Here’s the answer to yesterday’s PDD exam question:

Compression is on the top of the beam, tension on the bottom.

Tension is a pulling/stretching, and compression is crushing.

* The diagram shows exaggerated bending.

Here’s a PDD exam question. Assume the beam is supported at each end, and loaded with a point load mid-span.

What part of the beam is in tention? What part of the beam is in compression? Or is it at all?

* Check back tomorrow for the answer!

So here’s the answer to last week’s PDD exam question.

BUCKLING.

The tall, thin pieces of rebar would tend to buckle under loading.

The lateral ties prevent the vertical rebar from buckling. This topic is covered in Ballast p 42-17 & 42-18. It’s also covered in the Building Construction book by Mehta on p. 97.
