Rhetorikos Rhētorikós is an online journal that publishes the most outstanding student writing composed in Fordham University’s core writing classes.

Rhētorikós: Excellence in Student Writing is an online journal that publishes the most outstanding student writing composed in Fordham University’s core writing classes, Composition I and II. Published once each fall and spring semester, the journal provides undergraduate students with the experience of preparing prose for publication and the prestige of publishing writing early in their academic

careers. This project promotes the Ignatian concept of eloquentia perfecta,or the ability to make clear, rhetorically persuasive, sound arguments, by encouraging students to achieve excellence in the art of writing. Essays are submitted on a voluntary basis by Composition teachers in the fall and spring semester. Submissions are evaluated in a blind review process by the Rhētorikós editorial board. Those essays chosen to appear in the journal are returned to students with readers’ comments, revised by the students, and resubmitted for publication. We are pleased to announce the publication of the Spring 2013 issue of Rhetorikos, which features thirteen first-year student essays chosen from a record-breaking number of submissions. You will find personal narratives, researched arguments, and thoughtful responses on a wide range of topics: bullying, sexual violence, discrimination against women in hijabs, mid-town jazz, the causes of food addiction, the effects of technology, reconsidering the drinking age, classifying golfers, “leaning in,” adjusting to American idioms, and Honey Boo-Boo as a reflection on taste. Congratulations to all authors, instructors, and editorial staff on a job very well done!
