Today, on Yom HaZikaron, we remember those that lost their lives defending the State of Israel and the Jewish people. This year Yom HaZikaron is especially poignant, overshadowed by the horrific events of October 7th - the victims of terror and the hostages in Gaza. 🕯️

We are living through difficult times. We are mourning for each of the precious souls whose lives were so brutally cut short; we are praying for our brothers and sisters who are sitting in captivity; and we are sending our sons and daughters to active duty to defend our future.
At this time, we are all called to serve, each in our own way.
May Hashem protect us, provide us with the strength to persevere and triumph, and bless our people and our times with peace.

Originally from South Jersey, Erica Sultan (Rachel) is a senior at Stern College for Women, studying public relations and sociology, and is a part of the Mechina Program. Being a lover of stories and an avid storyteller, her works have been read by over 4 million people worldwide on social media platforms such as Wattpad. Having had experience with big time Marketing Directors, such as those at Colgate-PalmOlive, she is excited to be working with fellow Social Media Manager, Raquel Gilinski, as well with the rest of the YU Observer team, to create a community between the newspaper and the students of YU, and those around the Jewish world! When she isn’t posting on Instagram or Facebook, you can expect her to be reading an exciting fantasy book, or possibly writing one. A fun fact about Erica is that she didn’t know any Hebrew before coming into YU! Now she can (somewhat) make her way around Israel! (But she asks that you don’t test her on this!)
