What is one topic you can present on or talk about forever??

For me, it's Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)  which is no small talk at all!

I was honored to be a panelist on this topic recently. Thanks ! When it comes to how we can move the needle forward,  here are my 3 recommendations:

💜 Conversations and collaborations. I strongly believe that conversations help us to share experiences,  narratives,  concerns and recommendations. These conversations are not easy, but they help is to understand our various perspectives, why DEI is important and necessary,  and what ways we can get there where everyone feels the impact and value.

💜 Pause and Reflect. We are so busy in our own little worlds and sometimes this keeps us from seeing things for what they really are. Just pause and reflect.  Think about who's in the rooms and who's not in the rooms when certain decisions are being made. Who's getting hired and promoted. Who's leaving or getting fired. Who's getting the recognition and vsisibilig and who's not. Think about how our own privileges and unconscious biases are contributing to the disparities and lack of representation.  And please understand that we all have some level or privilege and bias. Recognizing and acknowledging this is helpful as we have these conversations and look for impactful change.

💜 Be Intentional and Deliberate. After reflecting and realizing the gaps,  be intentional about developing programs and initiatives that help cure those gaps. Where are we recruiting from? What publications are we marketing in? What vendors are we using and what are we demanding of them when it comes to promotion diversity and inclusion.

There's so much more that I can say, but yal trip over my long captions, ha!

Now, let's be clear,  I don't hold a formal diversity officer title, but as a woman, a black woman, a black Muslim hijabi woman, a HUMAN  BEING, I am extremely passionate about this.

What about you, what topic are you so passionate about that you can talk about forever? Drop it⬇️

My conversations and connections leveled up when I decided to just be real and move away from the need to impress or prove myself to to others.

We spend so much time worried about what to say or how to say it that we cheat ourselves out of the opportunity of just saying and being.

So shout out to everyone who is tired of being shallow. Tired of being self conscious. Tired of waiting for validation. Do you, be as deep and awkward as you want to be and connect with people who are just as real, deep and maybe awkward too. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I don't know about you but if I'm giving up quality alone time to be social, then the conversation better be worth it. Captivate my mind and make it worth it.

Who else feels the same way?

What is your favorite holiday memory?

For me, it's more of a tradition. My family doesn't really celebrate holidays like that. But Thanksgiving is our thing. Everyone comes to my parents house, we pray, eat, talk and dance all night long.

What's your favorite holiday memory? Share with me below⬇️.

If you liked this question and need more conversation starters as you plan for a memorable Thanksgiving, make sure to check out tomorrow's episode of the podcast where I share my top 10 conversation starters for the holidays.

How I nourish my body and mind…

My new favorite healthy snack to nourish my body is carrots wrapped in smoked salmon. Sounds weird I know but it's actually real good.

My favorite ways to nourish my mind are:
💜Praying first thing in the morning and throughout the day to invite calm and peace

💜Shutting off my phone and all other gadgets for a few hours

💜Sunday night baths while listening to podcast. Ashley's quick 20 minute motivational episodes are just what I need to get me hyped and energized for a new week ahead. She's like that girlfriend who always cheers you on while letting you know when you're playing yourself and playing too small.

Just like healthy foods nourish my body, my mind requires these three things to stay sane and balanced.

There might be cheat days when it comes to my clean eating habits (Nacho cheese Doritos is my weakness, ugh!), but you will never catch me cheating myself when it comes to keeping my mind right!

Now it's your turn….how do you nourish your body and mind?

Okay!

We're all about showing up as your full self in order to get the success and happiness you seek. But we also believe in showing up and operating in your own terms. Don't be forced to do things anyone else's ways but yours.

Kids say the darndest things!

I love talking to my little cousins and hearing their thoughts on friends at school, their favorite teachers (and least favorite😳), and even the recent elections! These days most of our conversations have been through Zoom or Facetime, but they make me laugh and inspire me just as much as if we're together in person.

It's important to carve out some time just to talk with our kids. As much as were going through stuff right now, so are they. On tomorrow's episode of the No Small Talk podcast, Ebony has a conversation with her kids, where they share a whole lot. You may even get a chuckle out of it. Stay tuned.

What types of conversations have you had with your kids lately and what new things have you learned from them?
