Comment GUIDE👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Here’s an easy way to get half-life questions correct on the MCAT and your chemistry exams

Take whatever value is given initially, and keep halving it. Once you get to the final value, count how many times you halved to get there

Then, take the amount of time it took to get to the final value and divide by the number of halves it took to get to the final value, and there’s your answer!

In this post, we’re focusing on how to calculate the exact amount of sodium hydroxide needed to completely neutralize carbonic acid to form sodium carbonate. The key to mastering titration problems like this lies in understanding the stoichiometry of the reaction. For every mole of carbonic acid, two moles of sodium hydroxide are required, reflecting the 1:2 molar ratio essential for complete neutralization. Starting with 50.0 mL of a 3.00 M solution of carbonic acid, we calculate the moles of acid present as 150.0 mmol. To find the amount of sodium hydroxide needed, we double the moles of acid, resulting in 300.0 mmol of base required.

Using the concentration of the sodium hydroxide solution, which is 7.00 M, we then calculate the volume necessary to provide these 300.0 mmol. The calculation (300.0 mmol Ă· 7.00 M) yields 42.9 mL, indicating that approximately 42.8 mL of sodium hydroxide is necessary for complete reaction
