Expectant parents: want to learn how to breastfeed / bodyfeed your baby?

You don't need to sit there feeling clueless or anxious.

You need clear guidance that will help you get feeding off to the best possible start from the moment your baby is born.

Hi! I'm Kate 👋🏼 With my first baby, I struggled with breastfeeding. It impacted everything about my transition to motherhood.

With my second baby, I followed the advice that Lex (IBCLC) gives in Mighty Milk's classes.

Breastfeeding went smoothly, and my baby and I both thrived. My little one weaned at 2+ years.

Make it a cozy couch date night with your partner. Comment Baby to sign up for Mighty Milk's Breastfeeding for Expectant Parents class, and immediately feel your breastfeeding confidence start to grow.

Imagine this: you are a very cute newborn baby. You are trying hard to grow and to learn how to nurse. But you have to do all of this without being able to move your arms, legs, and hands.

Skin to skin is undervalued and underrated, yet incredibly powerful in the early weeks of your baby's life.

Meanwhile, swaddling by design causes your baby to sleep longer stretches and can lead to less frequent nursing. While swaddled, your baby cannot access the reflexes that help them feed.

Swaddling healthy full term newborns is a practice deeply engrained in hospital settings and newborn care in general. Skin-to-skin contact, which has many benefits to both parent & baby, rarely gets the focus or respect it deserves.

If you are an expectant parent and thinking about breastfeeding makes you feel like 😬😵, we will help you feel way more confident in just minutes. Comment BABY to sign up for our popular Breastfeeding for Expectant Parents class. Learn why so many parents struggle with feeding...and how to set yourself up for success⚡

🦃👶🏼With the busyness of the holiday and adoring relatives who want to hold your baby, it's easy to accidently miss hunger cues and miss feedings.

⁣Remember: feeding your baby very frequently is best way to avoid challenges with milk supply, engorgement, plugged ducts, and/or mastitis.

⁣These issues can pop up and snowball quickly, so make sure you're carving out time and space for regular skin to skin and nursing or pumping sessions.

When I breastfed my first baby, it was a major struggle. Now, I'm exclusively breastfeeding my second baby and we are both thriving.

⁣⁣Over the coming weeks, I'm going to share some of the things I've done differently that have helped me go from an extremely stressful breastfeeding journey to a successful & fulfilling one.

⁣⁣One major thing I've done differently this time is to enter into postpartum life with realistic expectations. This is something that Lex, IBCLC, talks about in Mighty Milk's classes and it.is. everything.

⁣⁣I like to compare it to going to a music festival. Imagine you show up to the festival knowing nothing except which bands are playing.

⁣⁣Now, imagine that before the festival, you do a little research. You check the weather, so you know what to wear and whether to bring a sweater or raincoat. You also learn there aren't many vendors so you bring snacks, as well as extra 🧻 for the porta potties.

⁣⁣When you have context for what the music festival is going to look like as opposed to bare minimum details, you'll be much better prepared and have a much better time. Setting realistic expectations for postpartum life is a similar idea.

⁣⁣With my second baby, understanding what to expect has made all the difference. Some examples of what I knew to expect:

⁣🔸 That my baby will nurse very frequently (see: Mighty Milk's classes). I'm nursing 15-20 times a day for short periods of time.

⁣🔸That my baby will sleep best on my body. I know this is biologically normal and that by wanting to stay close to me, my baby is being a smart baby 🧠

⁣🔸That my baby will be different from other babies, so I don't feel the temptation to make comparisons or worry myself unnecessarily.

⁣✨Setting realistic expectations has improved absolutely everything about my transition to the "fourth trimester."

⁣In Mighty Milk's Breastfeeding Your Baby class, for parents of babies 0-12 weeks, Lex has an amazing chapter on this topic. It is worth the entire class and is perfect for any first time (or any time) parent. Link in bio.

I'd like to talk about the formula crisis that's creating a truly frightening situation for so many families.

⁣I believe the media- , , and to name a few- have really missed some important context for reporting on this crisis.

⁣This is not about mom shaming or formula shaming. My first son was formula-fed. Nobody should ever be judged for how they feed their baby.

⁣We can appreciate the fact that formula is an option, and affirm that it is important for families to have access to. But we owe it to families to look at this crisis with clear eyes.

⁣Here are the three problems I see in media coverage of this formula crisis. please watch 🎦 for more on all of these points:

⁣ 1️⃣ So much of the news coverage has described "breastfeeding moms" and "formula moms" like there's some sort of petty catfight going on. It seems like a page out of an old playbook to pit women against one another. Can we stop stoking controversy for clicks?

⁣2️⃣ There are many articles about the fact is breastfeeding can be really hard. But none of them go on to ask the more important questions: Why is breastfeeding so hard, and most importantly, what can be done to make it easier, so families can reach their feeding goals in the first place?

⁣3️⃣ This crisis is being painted by the media as something that will inevitably end. But formula companies answer to shareholders, not parents or babies. Plus, the state of the world today-- increasing weather disasters, wars, the pandemic --means we need to be realistic and come up with a real solution.

⁣Feeding your baby from your body, anywhere, any time, is power. It is control and it is safety. Any parent who *wants* to chest/breastfeed their baby deserves to be able to.

Postpartum life is plenty hard enough *without* feeding challenges. When parents struggle with chest/breastfeeding, it can feel like a crisis situation.

⁣Layer on physical and emotional recovery from birth 😳, exhaustion from lack of sleep 🥱, and the demands of adjusting to life with a tiny, needy human 👶🏽...well, it can all feel very overwhelming.

⁣That's why it's so important to educate and empower yourself about chest/breastfeeding *before* your baby arrives.

⁣Because when you have an idea of what to expect with feeding your baby, and you understand what is normal with a chest/breastfed infant, and you know how to tell if it's going well and when to get help, it's not just feeding your baby that can feel less stressful.

⁣It can make your (and your partner's) entire transition to postpartum smoother and more rewarding.

⁣Mighty Milk's FREE breastfeeding class for expectant parents helps you get feeding AND postpartum life off to the best possible start.

⁣It's about 2 hours of fun-to-watch, on-demand video led by the incredible Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Lex Beach. Price: $0.00. Link in bio.
