Here is an installed pendent sprinkler head. It is not uncommon to see a buildup or dust or foreign materials (also known as loading) on a sprinkler head. Light deposits of dust are less serious than hardened substances and can be cleaned with compressed air or a vacuum, provided the equipment does not touch the sprinkler. If build-up is hard, it may prevent the sprinkler from opening. In a situation like this, sprinkler heads should be replaced, as attempting to clean the sprinkler head in such conditions could damage it.
