in 1818, Maria Mitchell was born.

Astronomer, educator, librarian and naturalist, Maria had a love for learning and was encouraged by both her parents, her father a schoolteacher and her mother a librarian. She would discover a new comet in 1847, which brought international recognition, and she would be acknowledged as America's first female astronomer. In 1865, she became Professor of Astronomy at Vassar College.

He started painting at an early age and was strongly encouraged by his parents, taking him to Europe in his early teens to experience the architecture and the paintings by the old masters.

in 1856, Louise Blanchard Bethune was born.

She would go on to become the first American woman to work as a professional architect, primarily in the Buffalo, New York area. Her projects included the Hotel Lafayette, the 74th Regiment Armory and 18 public schools.

She was the first woman admitted to The American Institute of Architects in 1888.

199 years ago.....July 14th, 1827, Augustin Fresnel left this world.

He also left his legacy - The - an invention with a technology ahead of its time, but so needed to safeguard countless lives navigating on the waters of the home we call Planet Earth.

Thank you, Monsieur Fresnel, for your contribution to humanity!

It has been an honor to portray you since December of 2016 and I intend to continue for as long as I can, especially in 2027. Stay tuned for more details!

Bill Haley & His Comets would make their impact with "Rock Around The Clock" and their version of Big Joe Turner's "Shake, Rattle & Roll".

In 1987, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Painter and teacher, he is best known for founding the "Ashcan School", the urban realism of what he felt was "art for life's sake".

This was reflected not only in his work, but of those he mentored - Philadelphia illustrators William James Glackens, George Luks, Everett Shinn, and John Sloan, who would all move at various times to New York and with others would become known as "The Eight".

He would build and design such lighthouses as Bell Rock and Sumburgh Head Lighthouse & Visitor Centre, among many others. Engineer to the Northern Lighthouse Board from 1808 to 1842.
