Moon Passes Over the Pleiades Star Cluster
Captured by Cayetana Saiz | April 1, 2025
On the night of April 1, 2025, a beautiful celestial event unfolded as the Moon passed in front of the Pleiades star cluster (M45), creating a rare lunar occultation. This image is a creative composite, blending the final moment of occultation with over 13 hours of stacked exposures on the Pleiades.
The result shows what our eyes alone can’t fully capture both the intricate star cluster and the softly lit Moon in one frame. This artistic representation helps illustrate the drama and beauty of such astronomical events, especially when bright moonlight usually washes out nearby stars.
