Thursday, September 17th, from 9 – 11:30am, the is hosting an in-person info session and tour related to its Electric Tug and Barge Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI). This begins with an info session at the , describing the electric/zero-emission BMT-to-Hunts Point barge service that NYCEDC is looking to develop, followed by a ferry tour to Hunts Point. There is no virtual option for this.



Following the tour, participants will have the opportunity to be dropped off at either the E 34th St or Wall St / Pier 11 NYC Ferry landings.

Tomorrow morning, members of the Towboat and Harbor Carriers Association will join the U.S. Coast Guard and the New York Harbor community in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honoring the extraordinary maritime response that followed.
At 8:00 a.m., as part of the Coast Guard’s 25th Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony at Fort Wadsworth, participating TBHCA member vessels will sound their horns in New York Harbor before getting underway for the Battery. There, they will sound their horns once again in tribute.

The movement is intended to recall the actions of the maritime community 25 years ago, when tugboats, ferries, excursion vessels and other commercial craft converged on Lower Manhattan to help evacuate hundreds of thousands of people from the island.
On that day, mariners did what they have always done in times of need: they answered the call.

Many vessels and companies represented within our Association today were part of that response. Their crews carried evacuees away from Manhattan, transported emergency personnel and supplies, and continued supporting the city in the difficult days that followed.

Tomorrow, our members will return to those waters not to recreate what happened, but to remember it — and to honor the victims, first responders, mariners, Coast Guard personnel and countless others whose actions defined that day.

We are proud to recognize the vessels and crews from our maritime community that participated in the September 11 boatlift, and to share some photographs from that historic response.

Twenty-five years later, New York Harbor remembers.

We will never forget.

The Battle of Brooklyn Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR)
was in Red Hook last night! They commemorated the 250th anniversary of the launching of The Turtle, the first submarine used in war, an example of American ingenuity. The event was hosted by and us. There was a speaker from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and some two dozen observers.

Yes, there was a more recent Turtle submarine in Red Hook. That one was a political art piece by in 2007.

History lives in Red Hook! It is great to have that validated by the SAR and DAR! More info about both Turtle submarines in our virtual museum RedHookWaterStories, get the link at the end of this video.

There's an NYC Ferry leaving Red Hook at 6:01pm, and Atlantic Avenue at 6:10pm that will get you there in time, arriving at 6:19pm.

Thursday fire in New York City Department of Sanitation barge carrying recycled paper. The article says improper disposal of lithium-ion batteries has been causing barge fires and LOTS of Sanitation truck fires, 50+ truck fires a year since 2024! Be smart about your garbage, folks!
