Two teen Mighty Girls will meet in the US Open final tomorrow in the first women's or men's major tennis final featuring unseeded players since the Open Era began in 1968! 18-year-old Emma Raducanu of Britain and 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez of Canada both came into the Grand Slam tournament as unseeded players, ranked 150th and 73rd in the world respectively. Though each were expected to be eliminated early in the tournament, the pair will now go head-to-head in the first major final between two teens since Serena Williams played Martina Hingis at the 1999 US Open. Raducanu is also the youngest Grand Slam finalist since Maria Sharapova won at Wimbledon in 2004. Although her plane ticket had a return date for right after the qualifiers were over, Raducanu marvels "three weeks later, I'm in the final and I can't believe it.â Fernandez was equally thrilled by her stunning, unexpected success: "I'm glad that whatever I'm doing on court, the fans are loving it -- and I'm loving it, too. Weâll say itâs magical."
Congratulations to both Emma and Leylah and best of luck to both at tomorrow's final!

Annie Oakley, the famed American sharpshooter and star of Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, was born on this day in 1860. Oakley was born in a log cabin in rural Ohio and began shooting and hunting at age eight to collect wild game to help support her widowed mother and siblings.
From a young age she performed shooting acts at circuses and shows and, over time, Oakley became one of the first global superstars renowned worldwide for her incredible skill. One of her most famous feats was splitting a playing card, edge-on, and filling it with holes before it hit the ground at 90 feet using a .22-caliber rifle.
Oakley championed women's right to education, as well as taught an estimated 15,000 women how to shoot for purposes of hunting, exercise and recreation. As she once said, "God intended women to be outside as well as men, and they do not know what they are missing when they stay cooped up in the house.â

I am a scholar, a mother, and a community leader. In 2017, I ran for local office because I believe that good government can change peopleâs lives. In 2019, I became Mayor to bring much-needed change to my town of Montgomery. Now, I am running for Assembly to bring that drive for change to state government. The - Andrew Zwicker for Senate, Roy Freiman for Assembly and myself - are the perfect ticket to bring experienced, representative governance to Trenton.
