How to interrupt the cycle!
Cue-craving-response-reward
Rinse and repeat. It can feel impossible to change!

I put together a free guide called Skip the Sip to help you start interrupting this pattern in real, doable ways, no white-knuckling required.
Link in bio to grab it. Comment or DM "Skip" and I'll send it right to you!
Not forever, just for tonight.

You wake up at 7am and swear today's the day. Then 5pm hits and somehow you're pouring a glass, wondering how you got there again.

Here's what's actually happening: that's not a willpower problem. It's a habit loop your brain has practiced so many times it now runs on autopilot.

Your brain isn't broken. It's just doing exactly what it was trained to do.

And the good news? What's been trained can be retrained. It starts with actually seeing the loop instead of feeling ambushed by it every single day.

Ditching alcohol was just the doorway.

What was actually on the other side of it was finding out who I am and what I'm here to do.

You were made for more than managing a habit.
You were made for purpose. You were made for more.

5 ways to set yourself up to not drink and actually enjoy the long weekend, no hangxiety required:

1. Set an intention.
Why are you actually going? The food, the people, the sun, the firepit? Connect with all of it, not just what's in the cooler.

2. Make a plan.
Bring your own AF Corona or sparkling something. Have your line ready: "I'm taking a break and I feel so much better. What'd you do this summer?"

3. Have an exit plan.
Drunk people get old fast. Know how you're getting home when you're ready to go. And please, do not be the designated driver.

4. Plan your reward at home.
That "I made it" feeling can turn into an urge fast. Have your tea, your bath, your chocolate, your book already waiting.

That last one matters more than people think. You get home, you made it, and suddenly there's an urge to "celebrate." Beat it to the punch.

You don't need to white-knuckle this weekend. You need a plan. Go forth and prosper 🤍

Something new is coming. 🎙️

I've been working on a podcast for sober curious women of faith who are questioning their relationship with alcohol, real conversations, practical tools, and a faith-filled path toward freedom, without shame or judgment.

It's almost ready, and I can't wait to share it with you. Want to be the first to know when it drops? Join my newsletter (link in comments) so you don't miss the launch.

"Fine" was my full-time job.

Not the drinking. The drinking was easy. What took real effort was everything around it:

pouring the "right" amount
timing the refill so nobody noticed
showing up the next morning like nothing happened

I wasn't managing a drinking problem. I was managing a performance of not having one.
Sound familiar?

You know exactly how much to pour so it doesn't look like you drank the whole bottle. You know which nights to skip so nobody starts noticing. And somewhere along the way you decided you're probably the only woman in your church carrying this.
You're not. And you are so tired.

New on the Substack this week: what the hiding actually costs us, and why the weight of the secret is heavier than the drinking ever was. 🤍

Find me on Substack as Drink Less with Susan/ Or Comment “tired” and I’ll send you a link right to it!
