I help amateur pianists and piano teachers accomplish in 6-12 months what normally takes 3-5+ years.
Operating as usual
5 of my advanced students - Joanne, Luis, Brandon, Kirk, and Rohit - gave a piano recital at the National Opera Center in midtown Manhattan yesterday. Couldn’t be more proud of the exceptional musicality, emotion, professionalism, and artistry they brought to their performances! ❤️
Each student performed 15-20 minutes or more from memory.
For most of the performers, it was the first time they had performed in an in-person recital since childhood! And this was while juggling their limited practice time with family life and full-time jobs, of course.
Works included Mozart Sonata in F Major, K. 332 (complete); Beethoven’s Pathétique Sonata (complete); Chopin Nocturne in C-Sharp Minor, Op. Posth.; Debussy Arabesque No. 1; Rachmaninoff Prelude in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 3 No. 2; Chopin Études Op. 10 No. 1, Op. 10 No. 4, and Op. 25 No. 12 “Ocean”; the Mozart-Volodos Turkish March; and the Bach-Busoni Chaconne.
Special thanks also to Isidora - one of our amazing teachers at David Chang Music - who also helped enormously with preparations.
We also had some of my other students join us for one of the pictures 🙂
Saw 周深 (Zhou Shen) with my wife and dad at Barclays Center over the weekend! 🙂❤️🎶

My incredible student Lucas practicing performing through To Zanarkand (from Final Fantasy X, composed by Nobuo Uematsu) on 12/6/24 three and a half months after starting as a total beginner!
He’d studied with me for not even 3 months at the time of this recording and had self-taught for only a few weeks prior to reaching out to me.
He was able to memorize the entire piece (over 4 minutes) and performed beautifully in our student recital at the end of 2024 🙂
My brilliant former student Bilan practicing performing through Swordland (from Sword Art Online, composed by Yuki Kajiura, arranged by Animenz) (clip 2)

From a really sweet adult piano student of mine: the longest and most detailed review I’ve ever received (and that’s saying something)!
Always a joy to work together 🙂 Very grateful ❤️
Had another beautiful studio class with my amazing adult students in Pianist Collective just now 🙂
From Malissa and Isidora, two of our incredible teachers at David Chang Music:
Beyond proud of our students for their fantastic performances at the DiMenna Center in midtown Manhattan in January!
Though not pictured, we kept the celebration going with post-recital food and drinks. Such a wonderful time!
I’ve read 18 books so far this year (2025).
I decided to extend especially serious reading goals to February as it’s having such a positive impact on my life 🙂
Been meaning to read Deep Work for some time - it’s a bit dated at this point (published 2016), but more relevant than ever - I found many super practical insights.
