⬇️How to Teach Yourself to Play the Piano⬇️
Method 2: Learning Basic Piano Knowledge
1
Learn some basic piano knowledge. There are 88 keys on a piano. White piano keys are called naturals because they make a natural note when pressed. Black piano keys are called accidentals because they make a sharp or flat note when pressed.
2
Use instructional books. Since you don't have a teacher, let instructional books be your guide. That will take you through a step-by-step process of learning how to read sheet music, play basic scales, and learn chord progressions and then simple song.
3
Study the notes. You will need to learn where the notes are located on the piano, what they sound like, and how the note is written on the staff when you’re reading sheet music. You can make flash cards to identify the notes on the staff.
4
Learn finger placement. Use the instructional books to help you learn how to play the notes. Playing the notes with the correct fingers is just as important as learning where the notes are located.
5
Practice playing scales. Playing scales helps you familiarize yourself with the notes and the sound of them. If you are learning how to sight read, playing music while you sight read helps you learn where the notes are located and what they look like on the staff.
6
Learn some easy songs. Practicing with easy songs also helps you to memorize where the notes are located, which improves your sight-reading abilities. Start with C major. Then, work your way through the minor keys.
7
Practice, practice, practice. Learning to play the piano requires a lot of practice. Plan on practicing about 3 to 4 times a week for about a half hour.

⬇️How to Teach Yourself to Play the Piano⬇️
Method 1: Playing by Ear
1. Find a piano or keyboard to use. The benefit of learning to play on a piano is that the sound is acoustic because it's generated by a string.
2. Sit down at the piano or keyboard and familiarize yourself with it. Play with it and identify the middle tones, flat tones, sharp tones, bass tones and high tones.
3. Learn the major keys. You'll have to study the major keys if you want to be able to identify the sounds that you hear.
4. Learn the chords. Learn how to play the basic chords and find out where they are located on the piano. Play the chords to familiarize yourself with the sound of them so that you recognize them.
5. Notice patterns. All songs are composed of musical patterns. Chords repeat themselves often in a steady beat or rhythm. If you can identify the patterns, or chord progressions, that you hear, it is much easier to play a song that you hear.
6. Master humming. Humming helps you internalize the song. Sit down and the piano and repeat it. Once you know the chords and what the notes should look like, you should be able to duplicate them by ear.
7. Review finger placement. To really play, you need to know which fingers to play the keys with. The best way to do that is to get a basic understanding of finger placement from a beginner's piano book.
8. Practice. Becoming a good piano player requires lots of practice. You'll need to practice at least 3 times a week.

⬇️How to Teach Yourself to Play the Piano⬇️

The piano is a unique and interesting instrument, and also is fun to play. While you may think that it is impossible to become a proficient and consistent player without years and years of expensive piano lessons, that is not necessarily the case. With a little knowledge about the notes, keys, and chords, and a lot of practice, you can teach yourself to play the piano.

⬇️Easy Ways to Test Your Piano Skills⬇️

One of the most efficient ways to test your mastery is to ask your private teacher for feedback. He or she can offer you specific suggestions for improvement as well as assess your level. Teachers usually spend part or all of your first lesson evaluating your level to create a plan for progress and improvement. So start today, either on your own with the tips above, or by asking your current teacher or signing up for lessons.

Performance is another means of assessing your level. By learning a piece with the intent to perform it, and then doing so, you will be able to evaluate your overall proficiency. Playing and performing with other players also tests important abilities at the piano. Lastly, some students like to enter competitions and examinations as a means of receiving a clear assessment of their abilities.

⬇️Easy Ways to Test Your Piano Skills⬇️

Another way to test your mastery is to make the fundamentals a regular part of your practice routine as you play the piano. Spending time thoughtfully learning the fundamentals, like scales, good technique, and efficient posture, both tests and creates mastery. Seeing if you are able to play your scales at various tempos, without excess physical tension and with good technique, will demonstrate your mastery level of the fundamentals. If you aren’t able to play the fundamentals well, ask yourself what is standing in the way and dedicate more time to this particular area. Skill with the fundamentals guarantees that you will be able to then succeed at whatever you want to learn and play at the piano, by applying your understanding to each unique piece.

To test your skills in a more direct way, try sight reading a piece of music you’ve never played or heard. This will test your coordination, musicianship, musicality, and much more. Are you able to play continuously, within the beat, with the correct notes and rhythms, in a musical way? You can even record yourself sight reading the music, and then listen to your rendition with the music in front of you to identify what you did well and what could use work.

⬇️Easy Ways to Test Your Piano Skills⬇️

One of the simplest ways to test your mastery is to play something you already know well. Choose a piece you feel confident with, and then play the piano piece a few different ways:
• from memory
• at a much slower tempo, and at a faster tempo

Playing a piece in the above ways will show you how well you were able to master a particular piece, which most likely parallels your mastery in general of piano performance and practice. If you find that you are unable to play the piece at different tempos, this might suggest that you are relying too much on muscle memory instead of conscious practice. Likewise, if you are unable to play it at a faster tempo, which places a demand on your technical skills, this could be a sign that you could work to improve your technique. Playing at different tempos and from memory takes us out of our habitual practice mode of playing with the music in front of us, and at a certain tempo, and exposes areas that could use more work. It also shows us whether we are practicing intelligently and consciously, which is an important aspect of piano mastery.

How many hours a day should you practice piano?

As with so many things in the piano-learning world, the answer is “it depends.” You should ideally practice for:

As much time that you have to dedicate to the piano
As much time as you can remain concentrated while sat at the piano
Let me elaborate on this. Logic dictates that if you spend an hour per day practicing, you will develop at three times the pace as someone who practices only twenty minutes per day. However, this is not necessarily true. The QUALITY of your practice is more important than how much you do. If you decide that your practice consists only of playing through your pieces, making the same mistakes over and over again, it doesn’t matter how many hours you sit at the piano. You will not improve.

However, if you take a conscious, deliberate approach to practicing the piano, you will progress more quickly. Even if you dedicate only twenty minutes per day, as long as those twenty minutes are hyper-focused, you will make progress. Ideally, however, you will do as much hyper-focused practice as you possibly can every day. If your practice is good, then obviously if you do two hours a day you will improve quicker than someone who does twenty minutes.

Learn finger techniques while playing the Piano.

Learn about poses and masterful practice will improve your playing technique even more. Avoid incorrect poses so you don't injure your hands. (Fi*****ng: Stroke; Method of applying fingers to the keyboard, strings, punches ... of the instrument). Using flexible and effective fingers will help you figure out what fits the fi*****ng best.
Remember: The tap is in the finger. This is the secret to avoiding a hard sound. Hands are also very personal. Liszt's hands are long and narrow, while Rubinstein has short fingers and wide hands. However, both of them play great running fingers. The task of the teacher is to find the right play style for each hand, for each individual. The teacher has to be like a doctor who can overcome the weaknesses and recommend treatments. There is no one style that is applicable to all hands

Why does the technique of playing the piano change so much with the development of music?
Many new piano novices do not know: Piano playing technique has a lot of changes in the music development process and depends a lot on the music writer. For example, from Bach, to Beethoven, then Chopin. Early classics were written for pianos with much lighter action keys, not for grand pianos. So the technique of the fingers is of paramount importance. The counterparts in which the midrange stands out requires sensitive and lively fingers. There is always a connection between the brain and the fingertips!

The polyphonic period expands the entire writing style for Piano. This took place in Beethoven's time, and continued to the time of Chopin. Chopin was the first composer to write for the piano as for the piano itself. His goal was to create a wide range of characteristic sounds and use the piano tones to express his ideas.

With Beethoven it is different. He wrote for Piano, but thought of writing for orchestral. His piano was the means to the end, but his goal was the integrity of the melody. He heard the string quartet, the orchestra in the piano. Such differences in writing styles lead to changes in techniques. Before Beethoven's time, wrists were not emphasized in technique. But since then the use of the wrist has been one of the key elements of the technique. Now the ideal techniques of pianists include wrist movement and arm relaxation.

What do you need to develop piano playing technique?
An acoustic piano or an electric piano. If you are using a digital piano or a keyboard then make sure it has the correct sound and the weight of the keyboard + key feel is closest to an acoustic piano.
Piano lessons (available online or from piano instructors)
Certain devices or devices for playing the Piano at home (such as DVD sets or books) - for those intending to learn by themselves.
A printer and some musical notation software (this is not a necessity but if you have it you will improve the learning process a lot).
Time management software (this is a simple spreadsheet that will work in most cases) can benefit you a lot - especially for those of you who never schedule your work.
A serious and determined attitude to work hard: Learning Piano is not a job that you can do in a week or two. The process of practicing to improve playing skills should be done in small steps, without haste and patience. Without patience, you will not be able to truly improve your playing skills.
