Today is , and we have a lot of people to thank.
Our teaching artists show up in over 100 schools across New York City, New Jersey, and Westchester every week to bring joy to thousands of young people. They teach kids how to foxtrot and merengue, yes. But more than that, they teach kids how to listen, how to show up for each other, and how to carry themselves with dignity.
To every Dancing Classrooms Teaching Artist, past and present: thank you for the work you do every single day. Your impact lasts longer than we can imagine.

Proud to be part of the Queens Cultural Community Legislative Breakfast at Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning on April 24th! Councilmember Nantasha Williams , who calls herself a "Champion and accomplice" for the communities she serves, delivered an inspiring keynote. Great to hear from CM Phil Wong, Lucy Sexton from New Yorkers for Culture & Arts , and Evie Hantzopoulos, Executive Director of the Queens Botanical Garden, Phil Ballman, Queens Director of Culture and Tourism, and Karesia Batan, Founding ED of Queensboro Dance Festival as well. The arts are essential to Queens, and mornings like this remind us why advocacy matters. Thank you to JCAL for bringing us all together!

We are so proud of two of our incredible DC team: Teaching Artist Ilene Echavarria & Senior Teaching Artist Akemi Kinukawa (Swing Dance Astoria) , who recently completed a special professional development program with our friends at Born Dancing!
Born Dancing is a New York-based nonprofit founded on the belief that people of all ages and abilities should have access to every aspect of dance. Their Teaching Artists program supports dance educators in deepening their practice around disability inclusion, special education, and equity-centered teaching.
Over four workshop sessions this February and March, Ilene and Akemi explored how to bring the values of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (or IDEA as we like to call it) to life in their classrooms through curriculum design, reflective practice, and collaborative learning.
At Dancing Classrooms, we believe every student deserves a dance floor where they feel seen and supported. Investing in our Teaching Artists means investing in every student we serve.

March Madness just got a little more personal for us! Rutgers guard, Tariq Francis, a Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh alum, is out here making noise on the big stage! Tariq led Rutgers with 16.9 points per game this season and earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors, proving he belongs among the best in one of college basketball's toughest conferences.
Before he was lighting up scoreboards, Tariq was lighting up the dance floor at Colors of the Rainbow. We love seeing our alumni carry that confidence, grace, and joy into everything they do. Go Tariq, go Rutgers! ππ
