Are you giving your brain enough oxygen?

Deep breathing isn't just a relaxation technique—it's how you regulate your nervous system.

Your brain uses 20% of your body's oxygen supply.

When you're stressed, your breathing becomes shallow, which means less oxygen to your brain. That's why you feel foggy, anxious, or overwhelmed.

Deep breathing increases oxygen levels, improves brain health, and activates your parasympathetic nervous system—your body's natural calming system.

Try this: practice soft belly breathing, inhale fully to your belly, and then gently let it go with an exhale. Do it three times. Notice how you feel.

Save this and try it before bed tonight.

And follow for more nervous system tools.

Sleep is one of them. But there are ten!

Sleep is essential for preventing burnout. But it's only one of ten evidence-based domains that impact your stress state.

If you're only focusing on sleep and ignoring the other nine, you're missing the full picture.

The ten domains: breathe deeply, remain active, stay hydrated, eat healthier, get consistent sleep, take regularly scheduled breaks, acknowledge and express your emotions, participate in fun activities, find meaningful connections, and be appreciative.

If you're sleeping eight hours but neglecting the other nine domains, burnout will persist. You need a whole-person approach—not just more sleep.

Which domain are you neglecting? Comment below.

Tired vs burned out—they're not the same thing.

Tired is what happens when you don't get enough sleep or when you've had a day of expending a lot of physical, emotional, or mental energy. Your body needs recovery, and once you get it, you bounce back.

Burned out is different. It's when your nervous system is dysregulated from chronic, unmanaged stress. It's deeper than fatigue—it's depletion that affects your body, mind, and emotions.

You can sleep for hours and still wake up exhausted.

That's burnout.

And it doesn't get fixed with more sleep alone.

Which one are you experiencing? Comment TIRED or BURNOUT below. And follow for more on how to address the root cause.

Growing up, I learned that pleasing others equaled safety.

Growing up gay in a straight world taught me early on how to people-please. I learned to perform, to fit in, to silence my inner compass in favor of what I thought I was supposed to be.

That pattern followed me into my career. For twenty-plus years, I chased perfection. I said yes to everything. I avoided conflict at all costs. And I burned out. Over and over again.

The turning point? Understanding that my people-pleasing wasn't about kindness. It was about fear. And that fear was keeping my nervous system stuck in survival mode.

If this resonates, you're not alone. Follow for more on breaking the pattern. Link in bio if you're ready to go deeper.

People-pleasing is costing you these five things.

One: Your energy. Every yes that should be a no drains you.

Two: Your authenticity. You lose touch with who you really are.

Three: Your boundaries. People-pleasing erodes your ability to protect your wellbeing.

Four: Your relationships. Resentment builds when you're not honest about your needs.

Five: Your sense of self. You forget who you are underneath all the performing.

People-pleasing isn't kindness. It's self-abandonment. And it's burning you out.

Which one hits hardest for you? Comment below.

Your body is keeping score.

Every time you say yes when you mean no, every time you suppress your needs to avoid conflict, every time you make yourself smaller to make someone else comfortable—your body remembers. It shows up as tension in your shoulders, tightness in your chest, exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix, anxiety that won't quit.

These aren't random symptoms. This is your nervous system trying to tell you something: people-pleasing is costing you more than you realize.

You're not alone in this. Follow for more on breaking the people-pleasing pattern.

Stop being so nice.

I know that sounds harsh, but hear me out. If you're constantly saying yes when you want to say no, if you're prioritizing everyone else's needs over your own, if you feel guilty when you set boundaries—you're not being nice...

You're people-pleasing.

And there's a difference.

Kindness is a choice that energizes you. People-pleasing is a fear response that drains you. It's your nervous system trying to keep you safe by making sure everyone else is happy.

But it's burning you out in the process...

Follow for more nervous system truth.

Your burnout isn't your fault.

(Enter self-compassion)

But it is your responsibility to heal it.

You didn't create the systems that burned you out. You didn't choose to have a dysregulated nervous system.

But now that you know what's happening, you have the power to change it. That's the work.

And it's worth it.

Has that New Year's resolution already fizzled out?

Here's why they don't work: Resolutions are built on willpower. But when you're burned out, your brain is in survival mode. Your prefrontal cortex—the part responsible for decision-making and self-control—is compromised.

You're not failing because you lack discipline. You're failing because your nervous system is overwhelmed. You can't willpower your way out of burnout.
