Sometimes, the painting you imagine doesn’t work as planned and adjusting your composition directly on the canvas can cost time, money, and energy. Pre-composing your artwork using software like Photoshop allows you to experiment with images, colors, and effects beforehand, making the painting process more efficient.
Robert Dale Williams, an artist who earned his MFA from the Academy in 2004, teaches a six-week online course open to the general public on using Photoshop for pre-composing paintings. The course can be accessed at academyeverywhere.com. It runs every Wednesday from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, starting January 22nd.
Robert demonstrates the methods he uses for his own oil paintings and digital illustrations while guiding students through crafting their own compositions. Personalized feedback helps students refine their work and integrate these digital techniques into their traditional art practice.
