New environmental data layers are now available on the MARCO Ocean Data Portal! 💦

Developed by MACAN Mid-Atlantic Coastal Acidification Network, these new interactive map layers show the seasonal cycle averages for chlorophyll-a and pH across Mid-Atlantic estuaries and ocean waters from 2018–2023. The maps provide a valuable look at seasonal patterns in water quality and ecosystem conditions.

It was a busy day for Lori, Chip and our grad students last Friday as they deployed 2 gliders for the NJ Research Monitoring Initiative and 1 for . The gliders will spend the next month cruising the waters off NJ monitoring water quality, taking scientific measurements of temp, salinity, pH, oxygen, phytoplankton, listening for whales and fish tags, and looking for zooplankton.

At the Marine Educators Association Conference in Cambridge, MD, MACAN co-coordinator Emma Venarde presented on MACAN's educational resources for teachers. Attendees learned more about our coastal acidification curriculum and tried their hand at our new video game, "Water We Gonna Do?"
