OUR LITTLE LURCHER FAMILY UPDATE...

Most of you will have seen the week we have had with a total of 12 lurcher coming into our care over a period of 48hrs ..

A week where we have posted nothing but cruelty ,neglect,suffering ,pain and sadly death as we have ran ourselves ragged trying to keep up with it all .

This week has very nearly broken even the most hardened of our team...

BUT ....here we are ..still standing ..still smiling (some may call it a grimace) and still fighting for each and every dog who needs us .

Tuesday morning saw us Rescue 7 live lurcher babies from the field where they had been callously thrown to die(sadly one was rip as we got there)....

Sick ..weak..mangy..6 week old babies ..

But we didn't stop there ..

On Wednesday after a few calls ,we located the Mum of these babies ..And we bought her back to our sanctuary ,though not to be reunited with her babies as she has no milk but is being treated for a skin condition...

And yet this families story wasn't over yet ....

We then found out there were two more siblings of this litter and like a dog with a bone ,off we went again in our efforts to locate them and bring them back to their siblings ...Which we did !!!

So we now have NINE sickly ,emaciated ,weak lurcher babies ...and in the 3 days that they have been with us,we have been in and out of the vets every day (and night ) with one or another of them.

They are so weak and undernourished that their little bodies are finding it hard to adjust to everything ..They have huge worm burdens and in dogs so weak,that in itself can be life threatening.

Diarrhoea has also a huge problem within this litter as their starved bodies take in the tiny amounts of food we are feeding them ..AND if all that wasn't enough to be dealing with ,we now have some of these pups collapsing, leaving them unable to walk ... So distressing to watch ...

So yes,we have worn a path to our vets over the last 3 days ...drips ..blood tests ..xrays ..you name it,these pups have gone through it in less than 72 hrs ..

They are now confirmed as anemic and the reason for them collapsing, may be rickets or even something else .

All we can do is love them and care for them.

But ...they are all here still ...all together and all fighting hard to stay alive ...

They have a long, hard battle ahead of them over the coming weeks and we are a long way off feeling they will all survive but all we can do right now is take one day at a time and we are not giving up ..No matter how tired ..how fed up we are ,we will do all that is needed of us .

Mum is doing well and is now starting her life under our care ...She is just the sweetest of girls and we look forward to the day she becomes someone's "forever friend" .

These 9 babies are tonight warm...safe ..fed and oh so very much loved ..tucked up together at our Sanctuary..

No matter what may come for these babies ,they have us ...and we let them know that every day

Huge thanks to the amazing team at Railway Vets Loughrea ....its been a constant stream of phone calls and vet visits over the last few days with these babies and they have done so much for them.

Let's not forget four amazing children who were the ones to start the change for these babies when they found them (photo in album below).
