A man points a gun at my face through the glass door. I'm 12.
My sisters are behind me.
We run.

Months later, I'm fighting off a predator with a broken stick from my laundry cart.

NYC in the 80's & 90s wasn't Sesame Street.

Those moments could've broken me. Instead, they built me.

Now, I watch my kids navigate their world. It's different, but no less challenging.

I could shield them. Keep them safe in a bubble of my making.
But I remember that broken stick. The strength I didn't know I had.

So instead, I guide them.
Let them stumble. Watch them rise.
Because life will test them. And I want them ready.

Not just my kids. All of us.

What if our scars are our superpowers?
What if our struggles are our strength?

I'm still figuring it out.

But I know this: We're stronger than we think. Braver than we believe.

And it's time we started acting like it.
