Teach Your Children Well
We live and learn through experience, and as I look back, I don’t regret nor do I want to change one thing (for everything happens in perfect timing); although I can’t help but imagine how different it would have been if I had a parental guide for reference when my children were born into this world.
Not a guide full of rules that mold, control, or enforce rigid expectations, where one is judged and punished if they don’t comply. Rather, a guide that awakens our child’s natural wisdom, as we observe what excites them and support their natural learning path. Our children are born with a powerful, internal guidance system, and if we foster it, they will thrive. Years ago, I didn’t understand that each and every being has an internal guidance system; I lived on default mode - meaning I was conditioned to believe I had limited power in my successes and setbacks, and that is the message I conveyed to my children. Now it is clear that my most empowering guidance is within, and teaching our children to follow their own internal guidance, while unconditionally loving them, is all that we need to do to teach them well.
Children come into the world with their own intentions to experience expansion. They want the freedom to choose and figure out what they want without their parents standing in their way. But along the way, they become conditioned by the people and culture they were born into. Although quite often, well-meaning parents, teachers, religious leaders, and society dampen down their internal compass, as they start to believe that the answers will be found outside of them. Slowly, their internal compass diminishes as their trust shifts from internal to external power. As they try to please others for love and approval, they forget that all their power lies within.
Before I understood my divine nature, I lived on autopilot. I was trapped within the social conditioning confines, where I unconsciously passed down what my parents had taught me. Although it mostly came from a loving heart, it wasn’t all positive. Children will take on traits, adopting similar belief systems, patterns, and fears of those they look up to. As a young parent, I believed I needed to shape my children and that I knew what was best for them. I felt a need to shelter them from all difficulties and fix their problems. Little did I know they were powerful beings, and my only job was to unconditionally love them and remind them that they have the power to create their own unique life experience.
On my journey of self-discovery, I have come to understand that a successful parent-child relationship isn’t about micromanaging or fixing. It is about being the prime example which our children can aspire towards…providing them solely with guidance to follow their passion and with unwavering, unconditional love as they do so.
Successful parenting is not about control, but giving our children the freedom to explore that which excites them. We can teach them early on that they can be empowered by their passions in life, with confidence and resilience to grow and expand along the way. Rather than projecting our own unfulfilled desires or rigid expectations, we can adapt lessons to our child’s natural interests. By supporting what genuinely captivates them, their brains become biologically primed for knowledge and a natural learning path.
Successful parenting also means stepping out of the way and letting our children experience the consequences of their actions, in a safe environment, without real-world danger. Instead of punishment, we should focus on accountability, as we unconditionally love and accept them…no matter what happens. When we allow safe environments where our children can follow their excitement to experience the consequences of their choices, they will learn any lessons needed moving forward. When we don’t attach our love to the child's performance, the child learns to trust their own inner guidance. We are all being guided towards the path of least resistance, and as we allow our children to experience the lessons they need for their unique expansion, they will learn to trust and act upon that guidance. This will lead to an easier and more joyful life, giving the child the space to authentically become the best version of themselves.
Most importantly, instead of focusing entirely on the child's actions, parents should hold their own vibrational alignment. Remember, what we typically call adults... actually are still children for the most part. To effectively raise children, we must continually work on raising and healing ourselves. If there is friction, remember that in their core, every person truly wishes to see their loved one embrace who they authentically are. Honor your relationship by unapologetically being your true self, while setting the best example for your child.
Examine your own fear-based or limiting belief systems around authority, acceptance, and love. Instead of focusing on what is going wrong or past conflicts, identify the aspects you can genuinely appreciate. Consistently focusing on positive traits or memories shifts your emotional set-point. (Your emotional set-point is your baseline, go-to emotional state regarding any specific subject like money, relationships, or career. It is the habitual frequency or "vibration" you consistently return to as a result of long-held, practiced thoughts.) Raising your set-point is always of value as it alters what you habitually attract and you experience life with more clarity moving forward.
When we avoid the trap of trying to micromanage, protect, or control the reality of our children, we foster a relationship of harmony and well-being. As we allow our children the freedom to evolve and follow their own inner guidance, we give them the tools to live their best lives. We all hold our power within, and that includes our children. Your child is not a helpless victim but a powerful, resilient, and divinely guided being. As you teach your child to follow their inner guidance and love them unconditionally, you will teach them how powerful they are.
My daughter was always one who understood her greatness, as she believed she could be, do, or have anything she desired in life - so much so, that my husband and I thought she was in dreamland at times…but now I see we had it all wrong. All children come into this world knowing their greatness, and as parents, we need to foster this mindset.
As parents, we can provide a safety net and foundational values for our children, but we can never guide them better than their unique internal compass. As we step back and let them figure out the next logical step, we give them freedom to be themselves, and we have the freedom from pressure to figure everything out for them. As we teach our children early on that they have all the answers within, and they learn there are consequences to their actions, they will learn through experience.
Each individual holds all the answers within to navigate life…this includes our children. The answer may not be clear at the time, but life will expose it to us. As we follow our inner guidance and trust in the unfolding, even when life throws us twists and turns off our path, we will learn from the consequences. Trusting the guidance and allowing it to unfold will lead to the exponential growth each soul came to experience. Each person will learn and grow differently, and we need to accept one another’s differences.
Our children are born with all the guidance they need within, and as we foster their ability to connect to their unique inner compass, loving them unconditionally along the way, they will expand in ways that surprise and delight them as they become the best version of themselves. There is an inspirational quote, which I have displayed in my living room, “While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.” May you go forth teaching your children well, as they do the same for you.
