Students in our New Washington High School Health Services Academy identified areas of healthcare that they would like to learn more about and have been learning from professionals in the field as well as learning about the preparation it takes from higher education experts. So far we have covered Pharmacy, the Pre-Vet program, EEG, and Neurology.

Thanks to Dr. Meghan Kahn, Scott Yates, Shelia Gustafson, Lindsey Minnick & Dr. Michele Zimmerman. Special thanks to Baptist Health Floyd and Indiana University Southeast for helping connect us with these wonderful speakers!

Shout out to our New Washington High School Health Services Academy they hosted a blood drive today and our students and staff showed their NW PRIDE and helped them exceed their goal. Awesome job Mustangs!

Our school therapy dog, Penny, has been very busy. October starts off a month with a lot of things going on!

October 1st is National Black Dog Day where people are encouraged to adopt canines in the darker shades since they suffer reduced adoption simply because of their coats and are more often euthanized. We have been so blessed with Penny and she'd like to remind everyone not to forget these precious pups!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Penny took time to visit with some of her favorite survivors at NWES.

Penny also had the opportunity to visit with some of the amazing NWES students to congratulate them on their PRIDE awards.

Our school therapy dog, Penny, was excited to attend graduation and wish her amazing handlers, Adyson Cain and Paul Giltner her thanks and best wishes for their futures! You will be missed, but know that you will always be a handler, just like you will always be a part of the Mustang family!

Shout out to our Therapy Dog in Training, Bluey! She is well on her way. She passed her first two tests today, her American Kennel Club S.T.A.R. Puppy and Canine Good Citizen tests! Way to go Bluey!!!

Special thanks to her foster mom Mrs. Hannah Shepherd (and family), her trainer Amanda Armstrong, her breeder Wrights Golden Beauties, Penny's foster mom Michelle McCutcheon, and her student handlers, and everyone who pitched in to help her train. She began her testing the day she was born and all of that dedication and hard work paid off!

Bluey will get to enjoy the summer at home practicing all she has learned and will return in the fall to start working on her AKC Community Canine (Advanced CGC) and AKC Urban CGC tests and delve deeper into therapy dog training - she is remarkable!

New Washington Middle/High School students don't forget to check out the Grand Opening of "The Depot", Charlestown's new teen hangout at the Family Activities Park TODAY from 4:00-9:00 -- free admission! Several of our New Washington High School Business & Entrepreneurship Academy students had the opportunity to check it out before it opened last week and they had great things to say about it. Lots of activities, corn hole, ping pong, video games, great smoothies/coffee/boba and food, and much more!

The grand opening will also feature some great bands and food trucks!

High School students - polish up those resumes and get your elevator speeches ready. The career fair is coming to New Washington Middle/High School! Employers will be there looking for those who want summer jobs, work-based learning, and long-term career opportunities!
