Residency Programs

Since 1982, Atlantic Center's residency program has provided artists from all artistic disciplines with spaces to live, work, and collaborate during three-week residencies. Located just four miles from the east coast beaches of central Florida, the pine and palmetto wooded environment contains award-winning studios that include a resource library, painting studio, sculpture stu

dio, music studio, dance studio, black box theater, writers' studio, and digital computer lab. Each residency session includes three mentoring artists of different disciplines. The mentoring artists each personally select a group of associates - talented, emerging and midcareer artists - through an application process administered by ACA. During the residency, artists participate in informal sessions with their group, collaborate on projects, and work independently on their own projects. The relaxed atmosphere and unstructured program provide considerable time for artistic regeneration and creation. Atlantic Center for the Arts provides housing (private room/bath with work desk), weekday meals (provided by ACA chef) and 24-hour access to shared studio space. Limited Financial Aid is available to qualified applicants. Community Programs

After firmly establishing an exceptional artists' residency with extensive outreach programs did Atlantic Center for the Arts broaden its mission to promote arts education to the local community by providing exhibition opportunities for outstanding Florida artists and educational programs for children and adults. In 1991, Atlantic Center at Harris House opened and the community arts program had its beginning. Located in the heart of a revitalized downtown, an historic home was converted to a cultural community center that, since its inception, has assumed a leadership role in providing arts education programs for children and cultural enrichment for adults. Facility Rentals

Nestled among 68 acres of Florida palmettos and scrub oaks on the shores of one of the most diverse estuaries in North America is a truly one-of-a-kind retreat and workshop facility ---- Atlantic Center for the Arts. The internationally acclaimed artists' community, located in New Smyrna Beach on the east coast of Central Florida, is a haven for artists from all over the world to experience the spirit of rejuvenation, collaboration and experimentation with like-minded painters, poets, composers and dancers. We have built on our success to provide world-class retreats that capitalize on what is inherent in everything we do: quality and excellence. Just as a residency at Atlantic Center allows participants to devote complete time and attention to their work in the tranquil, yet stimulating, environment - hosting a corporate retreat or event will do the same for you. Atlantic Center for the Arts provides a variety of work and meeting spaces along with technical support to ensure that participants progress without interruption. The unique, natural setting is unparalleled, the rental rates affordably competitive, and the value incalculable.

American beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) is just beginning to show off its vibrant magenta-purple berries at Atlantic Center. This fascinating native plant adds a beautiful splash of color to the woodlands while providing a seasonal snack for birds and other wildlife.

Its crushed leaves have also traditionally been used as a natural insect repellent, and some people make jelly from the berries—though their flavor is fairly mild. 💜🌿

Asking great questions—and creating space to breathe and talk about the poetry of witness in her new book, Otherwhere—is Carolyn Forché: poet, writer, member of our National Council, and Atlantic Center Mentoring Artist-in-Residence in 2013. Illuminating!✨

Remembering Ed Harris:

Ed once wrote of Doris Leeper that she allowed people to share in her dreams until "Doc's dream became our dream." That sentiment also captures Ed's legacy at
ACA. He did more than support someone else's vision.
He made that vision his own, helped carry it forward, and left his own lasting imprint on Atlantic Center for the Arts and the community it serves.

Congratulations, Jacek, on being featured in The New York Times for your sound recordings in Central Park! Read the article: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/05/arts/design/soundwalk-jacek-smolicki-central-park.html

In 2023, Jacek created One Step at a Deep Time, a soundwalk composition exploring the tensions between human and other-than-human soundscapes at Canaveral National Seashore—the longest stretch of undeveloped Atlantic coastline in Florida. Listen to the composition: http://smolicki.com/onestepatadeeptime.html
The work was produced through the Atlantic Center for the Arts Soundscape Field Station artist-in-residence program, a partnership between the Atlantic Center for the Arts and Canaveral National Seashore.

A researcher, artist, and educator interested in sound and listening, Jacek creates site-specific works that invite us to connect with our everyday environments in ways that deepen our perception of the world around us.🎧🌿
