DJing keeps bringing me to the best places, but the people are always the real gift. I got to provide the soundtrack for Ginger’s birthday in Lake Tahoe, and somewhere between that party and sailing with this new friend group, I fell completely in love with all of them.

The most beautiful, supportive humans who show up for each other so hard, and music is literally what brought them together in the first place. Being chosen as their DJ meant everything. I also got to have dinner with my aunt and uncle, who happened to be vacationing in Tahoe at the same time.

There was also a thrift store in town with a furry rug I had my eye on, but it was cash only and I was short, plus I had no idea how I’d get it home on a plane. Then I got to the venue and that exact rug was sitting on my DJ table. They’d bought it for me and said I had to take it home. 🤣

Then I headed to Reno to play a rooftop pre-party at Tahoe Aleworx before Goose, and when I first got up there and nobody had arrived yet, I looked out at the mountains and got teary eyed, like, even if not a single person shows up, the fact that music brought me to this rooftop is already so special.

And then people did show up, and I got to play my actual love language, funky tracks nobody’s heard blended into jam songs and rocknroll and that one song you completely forgot you used to lose it to. I think I’ve officially got my sound down now, and it is so much fun.

Also, a guy at the show looked at me and said “you look familiar.” Turns out we went to college together. I went on a date with him once. I showed up in pajamas because nobody told me it was a date, and he showed up dressed up and took me to a fancy restaurant. I also knew his now-wife Wendy back when she had a pretty terrible boyfriend, and I remember thinking she and Zach should just be together. They’ve been married ever since. Small world, big love.

Huge shoutout to my friend Big Al, who set up the Reno show, got me miracled into the Goose show, and got the sound handled for Tahoe too. You’re the actual best.

See you soon, Reno, I’ll be back through in a couple weeks on my way to Burning Man.

Forest Frequency happened the same night Phish was playing in NYC. I was at the shows on Wednesday and Friday, and they blew my mind. You might think I’d never leave before they took the stage again on Saturday, but I did. I had a really good reason: I wanted to get weird with my friends in Vermont, in the woods.

I’ve wanted to DJ on Fluffy since I watched the Man burn from her at Burning Man last year. Fluffy is a Burning Man art car that is a psychedelic cloud run by my new friend Duane.

Micha and his incredible wife Simone, on their absolutely out of this world property, chose me to play the exact moment they wanted to launch the party into space. I took that job very seriously.

Everything about that night was perfect, but the people were the best part. At one point Simone felt the vibes needed a reset, so she gathered a group of us and we walked to the gratitude tree, a tree strung with fairy lights where everyone hangs little tags of what they’re grateful for. We laid on the earth and someone asked people to share their gifts, because everyone has one.

At sunset I got to witness two of my dear friends and Burning Man sherpas, Amanda and Matt, get engaged on top of Fluffy. And before that, I got to be my husband’s booth support for his very first DJ set as Behavioral Risk. He crushed!!!

Forest Frequency, you made it ok for me to miss Phish, and if you know me, you know that is the biggest compliment I could ever give.

My Sunday Night Mass set at the Higher GroundBallroom took a lot of chances and my nervous system is still not over it and that’s what makes DJing terrifying, fun, and magical. If you weren’t there, this is your sign to catch the next one. 🖤 See ya out there.

I spent a summer as Daffy Duck at Six Flags, full costume, couldn’t talk, couldn’t show my face. Turns out that job taught me so many of the lessons I needed to become a great DJ.

Like how it’s never about me, it’s always about how I make people feel. That lesson translated not only into my DJing but into how I live.

I hope that made sense, and that it has you looking at how something you least expected might be playing a part in who you are today, or who you want to become.

Th-th-that’s all folks, I love you!! 🦆

I met Oteil Burbridge at a music festival in Costa Rica. I had no idea who he was, I just loved his vibe on stage, so in a yoga class the next day I asked him to be my best friend. He said yes. Not long after, he invited me to this camp he was running, just to come experience it.

I showed up near Woodstock, NY, at Full Moon Resort with zero expectations, and what I found blew me away.

Legendary musicians (Oteil started this camp with Luther Dickinson and Butch Trucks), people of every age, everyone there to learn, experiment, and play together.

I thought, what if there was some wellness activities here? Mentioned yoga to Oteil and he said, “what if you taught it?”I said I don’t teach yoga. He said, “but what if you did?”

So I got certified. That was the first what if. Every year since, I’ve added another one. Amy and Henry have supported my vision from the beginning and made wellness at Roots what it is today. Now Roots Rock Revival has a full wellness tent down by the creek, massage therapists, energy workers, yoga and mindfulness, a chill out lounge, and a daily river jam. It’s where people go to disconnect from the magic just long enough to actually absorb it. Watching it grow from one question into this whole world is one of my favorite things I’ve ever been part of. 🌊

And I think about that a lot, how it started with one small “what if” I almost talked myself out of. I don’t teach yoga. What if I did? Most of the things I’m proudest of started as some version of that sentence. So if you’ve got a “what if” you’ve been sitting on, this is your sign. You don’t have to have the certification or the confidence yet. You just have to say yes to seeing what happens.

♥️ if this makes any sense to you.
