You may have noticed something new along SR 47! ❤️🩶

Southmont Schools is proud to celebrate International STEM Accreditation across all four of our K–8 schools through STEM.org - an achievement that recognizes the incredible work happening every day at Southmont Jr. High School, Ladoga Elementary School, New Market Elementary School, and Walnut Elementary School.

This accreditation reflects years of intentional work by our teachers, staff, students, and community partners to create hands-on, real-world learning opportunities that build creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. From robotics and coding to agriculture, engineering, advanced manufacturing, and beyond, our students are gaining experiences that prepare them for wherever their futures may lead.

We’re incredibly proud of our students and staff - and we think this accomplishment is worth putting on a billboard!

💙What a Wonderful Open House!

Our Walnut Flyers are almost ready to soar! It was such a joy welcoming our students and families into the building this evening. Thank you for taking the time to meet teachers, explore classrooms, ask questions, and help us kick off an exciting school year together.

We loved seeing so many smiling faces and can’t wait to welcome everyone back for the first day of school on Wednesday!

Big congratulations to our very own kindergarten superstar, Cori Crossley, for being named Christi Hubler Chevrolet 2026 Teacher of the Year! Anyone who has stepped into her classroom knows she doesn’t just teach-she brings pure magic to learning everyday! We are so incredibly thankful to have her inspiring our youngest learners! Walnut teachers and staff pulled off the best surprise for our amazing principal, Jill Pinkerton! Everyone showed up wearing shirts with her face on them—such a fun and thoughtful way to celebrate her. The celebration included a delicious cookout/pitch-in that made the day even more special.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Crossley’s father and stepmother for cooking all of that incredible food on the grill—it was absolutely delicious and so appreciated!
