Switching our perspective from simply being a teacher to the role of awakener can profoundly change how we teach! It invites us to ask more questions, push our students towards curiosity, and come up alongside them as they discover.

Sometimes, students need a challenging change of sound in their practice. Braiden has taken on that challenge, adding a piece that’s a level above his current playing. Together, we’re discovering fun ways to succeed with this tricky piece - finding patterns in the music, incorporating aural learning, and solidifying fi*****ng.

Why lab-style piano lessons? Because learning together is more fun, of course! These three dudes tried their note recognition skills during today’s game break. Peer encouragement for the win!!

Jack had an awesome first lesson today! What a blast we had finding the groups of two black keys with puzzle eraser animals. He went on to zoom through FOUR units of My First Piano Adventures! Way to go Jack!!

Sometimes, a student just needs to bring a furry friend to lessons. Abby loves bringing in a new critter each week! 🐧🦊 Such a fun way to practice performing in front of an “audience” - a practice habit students can try at home too!!

Congrats to Connor for passing the Primer level of Piano Adventures in just about 12 lessons! What an achievement!

This week, we had a blast composing together in class! 🎼🎹🎶 Ryder got a chance to try his hand at finishing this group composition, and is so excited to see it notated on the staff!

I love that Bach saw himself not as a talented artist, but someone who practiced and used his talent and natural gifts he did have to keep pushing forward.

What a fun evening we had celebrating the musical growth of SCPA students last night! It was such a fun opportunity for these young musicians to take the stage at Phipps Center for the Arts. We can’t wait until the next recital here - such a beautiful venue!
