WV Department of Natural Resources officers spoke to 10th grade biology students about species conservation and regulations in place to protect our state’s natural resources. Then they judged our door decorating contest. These opportunities were the brainchild of one group of 10th grade biology students after completing their social media conservation campaign on the bengal tiger. They realized that poaching is an issue globally and locally and that the WV DNR could help raise awareness among students.

Door decorating contest this week (10/30-11/2) at East! 🍩 🍩 The winning 5th period class will win donuts!!! This contest resulted from the work of four 10th grade biology students that learned about the damage poaching is doing to bengal tigers. 🐅 🦌Poaching and species conservation are important locally, too! Some of our students have pitcher plants in their homes, and they learned that some species like the green pitcher plant is endangered! Multiple things are harming pitcher plants such as pollution and over harvesting; fertilizers are also harmful to the pitcher plant. We should use natural fertilizers such as fruit and vegetable peels, egg shells, or even fish. This is easy by composting!!
This plant gets it nutrients from the little hairs in the mouth of the plant which closes and traps the insects inside!

Hi everyone, this is Wally! He is a whale shark that lives in warmer water in Baja, Mexico. He is one of the largest animals in the world, which is utterly amazing! Wally’s favorite snack is Krill, Jellyfish larvae, and other
planktonic organisms. To eat his yummy snacks, he opens his mouth wide and sucks in a lot of water. However,
whale shark's ways of eating are hurting them! When they do this, they also suck in trach particles and litter in the
ocean near them! These particles are plastic which is not digestible! So, make sure you recycle and put waste in the proper place. If you would like to
