Not every student who is struggling will act out.

Sometimes the student who needs attention is the one who suddenly gets quieter.

They stop sitting with friends. Drop an activity. Participate less. Become unusually compliant. Their grades begin slipping without an obvious reason.

These changes can be easy to overlook—especially during the busy first weeks of school.

Our latest article explores 5 mental health red flags school leaders should watch for early in the year and how to turn observation into action.

The first weeks of school provide an important window into student mental health.

Before attendance reports, progress reports, or disciplinary data reveal a problem, the early signs may already be showing up—in hallways, classrooms, the nurse's office, and subtle changes in student behavior.

Our latest article highlights 5 mental health red flags to watch for in the first 6 weeks of school and what school leaders can do when they begin to notice a pattern.

Early recognition can create an opportunity for earlier support.

There’s nothing quite like a school building in August — quiet hallways coming back to life, and students walking in carrying everything a new year holds: excitement, nerves, hope, and sometimes struggles no one else can see.

As the 2026–27 school year begins, I want to say thank you.

To the district leaders who make student mental health a priority. To the teachers who are so often the first to notice when a student is hurting. And to the clinicians who sit beside students on their hardest days and help them find their way back.

At Effective School Solutions, we believe students can’t learn if they aren’t well — and no school community should face that challenge alone. That’s why our clinicians work inside school buildings, side by side with educators, right where students live their school lives.

To every student heading back this month: this year is full of possibility, and there are more people in your corner than you know.

Here’s to a wonderful year, together.

❓ Did you know that practicing moments of self-care improves emotional stability, reduces anxiety and depression symptoms, and boosts overall well-being by lowering stress and preventing burnout? Regular self-care strengthens resilience against life's pressures and helps manage daily stressors effectively.

🏫 This is especially true in the school environment: we can’t expect students to be regulated if the adults in the room aren’t. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, here are a few ways to practice self-care, even during the school day:

💙 Practice deep breathing: inhale deeply through your nose for four seconds, hold your breath for four seconds, and exhale through your mouth for four seconds. Repeat as needed (or until the bell rings)!
💛 Walk the hallways (or school track) during your planning period or lunch break. Movement can help reduce stress levels and potential inflammation in the body.
💙 Take a moment to laugh with a colleague. Laughter can release endorphins that help reduce stress levels.
💛 Introduce mindfulness or resets as a class activity so you and your students are ready to learn, connect, and collaborate together.

How do you practice self-care? Share in the comments below!

💙 Every student deserves more good days—and we don’t have to build them alone.

💛 May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year’s theme from Mental Health America is .

💙 We know that a "good day" for a student might just mean making it through first period or feeling safe enough to participate in a group project. But these days aren't built in isolation. They happen when school districts prioritize mental health care for their students and school community. When schools focus on creating a culture that fosters safe, supportive, and connected learning environments, true success is possible.

💛 By bringing high-quality mental health care directly into the school building, Effective School Solutions is helping to make more good days possible for thousands of students every day.

💙 How is your school or district fostering "more good days" this May? Let’s lead the way in student wellness, together.

💙 We’re proud to recognize and thank the educators who make a difference in students’ lives by showing up every day with dedication, empathy, and heart. At Effective School Solutions, we know teachers do so much more than teach. They help create environments where students feel seen, supported, and safe, which is essential for learning and students' emotional well-being.

💛 Thank you to all teachers for your compassion, patience, and unwavering commitment to helping your students grow and thrive, academically, socially, and emotionally. Your impact reaches far beyond the classroom.
