📚 Skills for School is back — and this year, we're partnering with eight local schools!

Every fall we run a program we're a little proud of: Skills for School. It's a 4-week introduction to martial arts for kids ages 4½ and up, built around the things that matter most in September: focus, confidence, self-control, and a strong start to the school year.

Here's the part that makes it different:

It costs $75 — and every dollar goes to your school's PTA. Not a portion. The whole thing. Your check is written directly to your PTA, and we cover the uniform (your child keeps it) and all four weeks of instruction.

Why do we do it this way? Because after 20 years in this community, we've learned that the best way to meet new families is the same way we try to do everything - by giving something back first.

🙋‍♂️Good Luck, Rylee! On Monday night, we bid a fond farewell to Rylee (a.k.a. 🛼Rylee Rollerblades) who is heading off to college. Rylee has been a loyal student at MAFL since she was just 7 years old. She is currently a second-degree Black Belt.

An avid runner, Rylee was 💙⚔️❤️ GL Highlander Track & Field Captain her senior year. She has also been part of Team Martial Arts for Life at the 💚🏃‍♀️💙 NJ Sharing Network Celebration of Life 5K for the past decade, taking first place in her age group in 2025. Rylee will be continuing her academic and athletic career at Susquehanna University (Go River Hawks!)

🙏It has been a tremendous privilege to watch Rylee grow up into a wonderful young lady. Ever since she walked through our doors when she was 7 years old, Rylee has been a happy, genuine, positive person. We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to train her and have her part of our MAFL family.

While we miss Rylee very much, we look forward to seeing her back on the mats during her breaks from school. 👊

🙋‍♂️Good Luck, Aidan! On Wednesday night, we bid a fond farewell to Aidan (a.k.a. Mr. Aidan E.) who is heading off to SUNY University to study engineering. Aidan has been a loyal student at MAFL since he just 4 years old! He joined our instructor team after earning his Black Belt several years ago and is a valued member of our team. In addition to his awesome martial arts skills, he is an accomplished soccer player who played forward on the NPHS varsity soccer team.

🙏It's hard to truly express what an amazing privilege it has been to watch Aidan grow up and be part of his life for the past 14 years. He truly exemplifies what it means to be a Black Belt martial artist - kind, confident, respectful, hard-working and a role model for his classmates and our young students. His martial arts skill speaks for itself. He is a wonderful young person who we know will go on to do great things.

🙃Funny story: When Aidan was training in the kids class years ago, we had like 3 other boys named Aidan training with us. So, Aidan was known as "Aidan E." Even though that was many years ago (and our only other Aidan nowadays is 8 years old), he is still affectionately known as "Aidan E." or more properly "Mr. Aidan E." when he is teaching.

😔We will sorely miss having him on the mats with us, and wish him good luck and success in this new chapter of his life.

We hope to have him back on the mats when he is home for a visit!

🇺🇸 We had a great time at National Night Out in New Providence!

A huge thank you to the 👮‍♂️New Providence Police Department, 👨‍🚒Fire Department, 🚑EMS, and all of the first responders who work so hard to keep our community safe. Events like this are such a great reminder of how fortunate we are to live and work in a town where so many people care deeply about serving others.

We also loved seeing so many local families, community leaders, organizations, and small business owners out supporting such a positive night for New Providence.

🙏A special thank you to our Martial Arts for Life instructors and students who came out to represent our school. We’re always proud to see them share their skills, carry themselves with confidence, and be part of something bigger than themselves.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, said hello, watched our team perform, or helped make the evening such a success.

We remain grateful to be part of this community. ❤️

💚💙We received this note from our friends at the NJ Sharing Network today. We wanted to share it with everyone who was part of Team MAFL in 2026.🤗

Our goal is always to be 100 members strong for Justin and this year we finished up with 107 members who collectively raised $4,728 for NJ Sharing Network Foundation. It was a great day of honoring, remembering and celebrating. Looking forward to 2027!

🔥We are beyond excited for the Berkeley Heights 5K Race for Mental Health hosted by the Kimberly Anne Wilson Foundation this September! We are proud to once again be a gold sponsor of this amazing event AND for the first time ever we've created a team for our students, friends and neighbors to join! 🏃‍♂️

🩵Mental health awareness and advocacy are causes we wholeheartedly believe in. MAFL has been a proud sponsor of the KAW Foundation since 2023 and we absolutely love that this 5K event focuses on raising awareness and supports mental health programs for students in our communities. Foundations like this that work to end stigma, educate and provide support are critically important for our youth to grow and develop into happy, well-adjusted adults.

🩵The KAW Foundation was founded by Marianne Wilson and her family. Marianne's daughter Kimberly passed away in March of 2017, at just 24 years old. The KAW Foundation was born out of her strong desire to make a positive impact on her community. Today, Marianne and her family continue Kim's legacy by creating meaningful change through the foundation's work.
