Feel free to share if needed, but this is a friendly reminder that we will always promote athletes doing more than 1 sport. I have had multiple athletes tell me in recent years that they only play basketball, or baseball, or any other various sport the entire year. While I love seeing students involved in sports, I always encourage them to take up another sport. We could talk for hours on the subject but we can narrow the benefits to 2 simple ones:
1. Different sports require different training of the body. This includes neural, muscular, and metabolic.
2. Early specialization in a single sport can lead to burn out and mental fatigue in athletes.
You will find below a few interesting pictures: in the 2019-2020 Super Bowl, 94% of KC was multisport athletes and 91% of SF was multisport athletes.
Lebron James was a phenomenal HS football player.
Robert Griffin III has the 2nd fastest 400m hurdles time in Baylor history
Finally, Joe Mauer was one of the best pure hitters in the MLB for a period of time. He was the top-rated QB in the COUNTRY.
All I am trying to say is that is ok not to be a full-time baseball or basketball, etc. player when you are in elementary or middle school. Have fun, be a kid, build friendships with teammates in multiple sports, and (most importantly) enjoy your MS and HS years as much as you can!
