Today, for Women's Veterans Day, proudly celebrate the women who have served our country and continue to make an impact in their communities.
Meet Genevieve Levrie, an aspiring student veteran whose journey from military service to higher education reflects PHSC core values. As a student, employee and veteran, she has embraced new opportunities and discovered new possibilities for her future at PHSC. Her story is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to pursue your goals and explore what direction brings you fulfillment.
“Don't think, just do it. It is okay to not be sure what you want to do or to change your career path. Sometimes people do not always go into the career they plan to, and that is okay. Give yourself grace, love and most of all be patient with yourself.” - Genevieve Levrie

Rachel Sevick, Admissions Specialist, and Angeline del Pilar, Assistant Director of Recruiting and Enrollment Management, recently visited the YFA New Beginnings Youth Shelter in Brooksville, Florida. During the visit, they presented information about the wide range of academic programs, student resources and opportunities available through PHSC. The youth were highly engaged throughout the presentation, asking thoughtful questions, participating in discussions, and even engaging in friendly debates about college and career pathways.
Outreach opportunities, such as this, allow PHSC to connect directly with youth in our community, helping them explore their educational and career options while building awareness of the support and opportunities available at the College. By fostering these conversations early, PHSC can help students envision their future and position the College as their top choice for their college education.

Today, Hernando County was proud to welcome Governor Ron DeSantis for a press conference announcing a $3 million award through the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund to Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC).
This investment will strengthen workforce education opportunities in our region by funding a new Airframe and Powerplant Aviation Maintenance Program, expanding pilot training opportunities, and consolidating drone maintenance instruction at the BKV Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport and Technology Center.
These initiatives will help prepare students for high-demand careers in aviation and advanced technology while supporting economic growth and workforce development throughout Hernando County.
We were honored to have Florida Representatives Jeff Holcomb and Samantha Scott, and Hernando County Commissioner John Allocco, who serves on the PHSC Board of Trustees, in attendance for this important announcement.
Thank you to Governor DeSantis, PHSC, and all our state and local partners for their continued commitment to creating opportunities for students, strengthening our workforce, and investing in the future of Hernando County.

Exciting News from the Governor's Office!
We are thrilled to share that Pasco-Hernando State College has been awarded an aviation workforce grant to expand career training opportunities right here in our community!
This funding will support FAA certification programs — including Airframe & Powerplant, Remote Pilot (Part 107), and Commercial Pilot credentials — helping students launch careers in one of the fastest-growing industries in Florida.
With program dates running from January 2027 through December 2032, PHSC is committed to removing financial barriers and opening the door to aviation careers for all members of our community, including underrepresented populations.
Thank you, Governor, for investing in Florida's workforce and the future of our students!
Today in Brooksville, I awarded $3 million for workforce education through the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund to Pasco-Hernando State College. This award will fund the launch of a new airframe and powerplant aviation maintenance program, the expansion of pilot training opportunities, and the consolidation of drone maintenance instruction at the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport.
Manufacturing, aviation, and aerospace are growing in Florida. With expanded training opportunities, more Floridians will be able to prepare for in-demand careers in these sectors—and companies will invest more in our state, creating good jobs and fueling Florida’s economic success story.

Franco Costa Pareja came to Florida from Peru to pursue his degree in Computer Science, leaving behind everything familiar for new opportunities. After suffering a significant injury early in his studies that required a semester off to recover, Franco returned ready to take on his education.
Upon returning, he enrolled in 21 credits and earned straight A’s, showing his strong commitment. Beyond academics, Franco has contributed as a tutor at the Academic Success Center, helping students through their coursework and materials.
"I don’t have a single 'most memorable' experience—because most days at PHSC are special to me," Franco said. "Since joining the ASC as a tutor at Porter, I’ve spent a lot of time on campus, whether studying or helping others. Every day brings something new; no two days are ever the same."
Franco’s perseverance and dedication make him a standout student who reaches milestones through hard work and resilience.
"I already know that when I look back on my time at PHSC, it will be with deep affection. This chapter of my life has truly been an inflection point—one that’s shaped who I am and who I’m becoming." - Franco Costa Pareja
