As many of you know, we started our homeschooling adventure with Kryslynn this year, and she has been doing wonderful!
We are currently still waiting for her Step Up For Students funding to come through so we can purchase more of her curriculum, educational materials, and tutoring.In the meantime, I have been getting creative and we’re keeping the learning going!
This week we’re working on our Letters Across America / Snail Mail project. Kryslynn is learning how to write letters, address envelopes, use stamps, understand ZIP Codes, and learn how the postal system works. Once we get her PO Box, we’re hoping to receive postcards and letters from different places and mark each city and state on a big United States map as the mail comes in! We’re looking for a couple of things for our homeschool area:A large poster-size United States map that we can hang on the wall and put pins/stickers on as her mail arrives.
A student or children’s dictionary that she can actually hold, look through, practice alphabetical order with, and use to look up her weekly vocabulary words.
If anyone happens to have either of these sitting around that you’re no longer using and would like to donate them to Kryslynn’s homeschool we would be incredibly grateful. Used is perfectly fine! We’re not asking for money—we’d much rather give educational materials that aren’t being used anymore a new home.
We’re making the best of what we have while we wait for her funding, and I’m determined to show her that learning can happen anywhere and with just about anything. Thank you to everyone who has been encouraging her and following along on our homeschool journey. It really does mean a lot to us!

Our preschoolers enjoyed a very special lesson centered around The Kissing Hand!
After reading the story together, the children created their own painted handprints and added a sweet Kissing Hand poem to their artwork. We also worked on name recognition and early writing skills by tracing their names, identifying the letters, and practicing how to spell them. And we had an extra-special surprise! Each child received their very own copy of First Day Jitters book to take home and enjoy with their families. We love finding ways to bring learning from the classroom into the home and encourage families to read together.
Days like today are about so much more than making a cute craft. We’re building fine-motor skills, letter recognition, early literacy, listening comprehension, creativity, confidence, and a LOVE for books! We can’t wait for our families to see all those adorable little handprints and smiling faces! Leading By Example Childcare

Today our VPK friends spent the day learning about something very important… THEMSELVES!
We read What I Like About Me! and I Like Myself! and talked about how every one of us is special and unique in our own way. Then the children created their very own “All About Me” people! They colored their faces, added their bodies, and even cut yarn to create their own hair.
While it may look like a fun art project, they were learning so much along the way — practicing cutting and fine-motor skills, creativity, body awareness, following directions, and most importantly, confidence and self-love. We want our children to grow up knowing that it’s okay to be different and that there is something wonderful about every single one of them.At Leading By Example Childcare, we’re not only teaching our little ones their ABCs and 123s — we’re helping them learn to love who they are!

THE CHILD WHO IS TOO SICK FOR SCHOOL

As both a parent and someone who works in preschool,I really need to ask...Why do some parents send their children to school when they KNOW they are sick? I understand that parents have jobs. I understand that finding childcare is not always easy.But when your child arrives with a fever, is coughing badly, vomiting or clearly feeling unwell, it doesn't only affect your child...
It affects the whole classroom.
Then one child gets sick.
Then another.
Then the teachers.
Then the teachers take it home to their own children.Before you know it, HALF the class is sick.

Why does my child line up toys instead of playing with them?
One of the earliest behaviors that leads many parents to wonder about autism is seeing their child carefully line up toys instead of using them in pretend play.
At first glance, it may seem unusual.But for many autistic children, lining up toys is a meaningful form of play.
It can help them:
Find comfort in order and predictability.
Explore patterns, shapes, sizes, and colors.
Regulate emotions and reduce anxiety.
Focus on details that others may
overlook.
Learn about the world in a way that makes sense to them.
It's important to remember that play doesn't have to look the same for every child.
