FYF - Wall Slide Stance

What if you could unlock a powerful UPPER BODY exercise just by changing your lower body stance!?!? That's the case here. There's a variety of issues that can arise from simply being out of position. This caption will give you an overview

1) Too far away leads to a loss in postural integrity.
2) Swaying at your hips leads to putting pressure on the wall (that's not the point, which we'll discuss in a different FYF)
3) You can turn on the wrong muscles (at most, this will cause pain. At least, this will make the exercise useless)
4) Too far away will cause poor joint movement in your shoulders.

It's always important to work with good coaches and physios who know what they are doing. The FYF series is a way for us at Advancing Athletics to help you from afar! Reach out to get yourself some high quality coaching or rehabilitation

Here's helping present the difference between effective and ineffective technique for arm motion with a box Jump. This episode of FYF breaks down how to execute proper upper body form during this ESSENTIAL plyometric movement.

Remember with such a movement that you need to optimize the energy production for the best results.
Torque vectoring (the direction your applied force is focused) can be the difference between making a play and being 👌 close.
Performance is the apex. Precision is the foundation.

PvP 1 - Ex*****on is the Goal
Whether your 17-year-old volleyball player....
a 25-year-old MLB pitcher....
Or a 43-year-old jogger....

How you perform in your event (recreational or competitive) is the thing we use for your accountability and the object of your hard work and sacrifice.

The inspiration for this post is stated in the video while acknowledging the disappointing performance by Gavin Williams, the Cleveland Guardians pitcher, we should not be also handing down judgment as spectators.
Instead, his poor performance was simply poorly timed. The club needed him to show up and be the star he has shown himself capable of being.

Here's the rub: Lighting up the radar gun doesn't mean 💩 if you throw meatballs in the game.
Lifting all the heavy weights in the gym doesn't mean 💩 if you get whooped at the line of scrimmage.
Getting As on all your tests doesn't mean 💩 if you can't think critically on the job (literally and figuratively).

Make sure you work with people who a) always celebrate your successes while also steering you towards ex*****on and b) support your journey towards precision because it DOES lead to better performance

Think all coaches are created equal? Not so. You need people who will be attentive to your needs and be able to promote what's best for you throughout the entire journey. As an athlete develops, the needs change and the abilities change. This is what allows you to ensure you're getting the most out of who you are and what you can do.

Remember that when you're picking a coach. We offer all clients access to a. Dietitian, a physical therapist, the ability to screen people when they're hurt so they don't become injured, start addressing injuries before they can turn into big deals, all this while also getting strong and improving your performance.

How do you succinctly but directly motivate yourself to either "Lock It In" or "Be brave cuz I'm afraid to fail" without confusing the two!?

I use " try more harder" to get that done.

As I've described in past episodes, acknowledging reality and acknowledging that you aren't operating at peak performance is powerful. And important. That provides you context needed to have the best experience possible.

Other times, you're procrastinating or worried about challenging yourself. You won't be your best if you don't sometimes do what is uncomfortable. Sometimes it's mental scary or physically scary.

With "Try More Harder" you'll be equipped with a phrase to differentiate between the two. We want you to take accountability for yourself but also give yourself the grace and space for when things are new.

Some people have been asking me about what makes a good pitcher versus a good thrower. And why does it matter?
Softball or baseball, middle school or pro, you need to work with somebody who has a good understanding of the body and the sport.

-The point is that eventually you're going to get stopped in your tracks because your "stuff" won't be good enough to blow by your opponents.
-The point is that eventually your body will not hold up to the stress that comes from seeking more and more velo.

Just ask your strength coach next session to explain the arthrokinematics of the shoulder joint and the importance of scapulo-humeral rhythm on movement, especially throwing a ball. The coaches and parents who send their kids to us know they can have this question answered anytime they want. So can you if you. DM me!

The 5th annual Memorial 12 was a blast as we honored those we've lost while celebrating the friends and family we have met along the way! It's a blessing to have so many meaningful relationships! There is no way we would enjoy more as the official start of Summer 2026!

Let's Do It Together - 8: How Great Can Ruin Really Good

This episode of LDIT is not about "perfect is the enemy of good." That'll be in a different episode.

Great ruins good because of the positivity that comes from good! You can be having a good day or good conversation or good workout. Taking the success of the good thing and trying to use that as a reason to make a GREAT thing only to see all of it fall apart is the point.

This is more along the line of "leave well enough alone" because of how we undervalue (or under acknowledge) the premeditative efforts of success. Sometimes it's so routine that you don't even remember you made said efforts in the first place. I hope this helps you encourage yourself to be thrilled with good and the efforts it takes to achieve it! Simply plan for the next awesome thing the next session rather than expecting to get it all done today!

Where have you ruined a good day/session/workout making it a great one? We'd love to hear your thoughts if you're willing to share!

All are welcome here and it was cool to hang with the boys in a session! Different skills. Different goals. Different levels.
Looking forward to seeing what these dudes do in the spring! 💪
