We had a successful garden season! This beautiful space has come along way over the past few years. We are grateful that last fall we had nice harvest. Thank you to those who have contributed to the garden from planting, weeding, watering, building, painting and so much more! We’ve had Makerspace and Nature STEM clubs utilize this space for lessons. And we are proud of our recent Eco School Green Flag Award. Many thanks to Stroud Water Research Center Riverbend EEC Fairmount Water Works Fox Chase Farm and John Moffet FSO for helping make our garden and outdoor classroom a success!

On June 1st a small group of Moffet students presented their Trout in the Classroom experience at the Eco School Summit.

The end of day ceremony recognized the ecology work of numerous schools. Due to all the work the Moffet Community has done (school cleanups, biking to Moffet, green career podcast guests, composting, etc) Moffet was one of the schools awarded the Green Flag Award, which is the highest honor. On May 18, 2026, Moffet Elementary’s 4th grade class hosted author Christine Kendall and artist Mugo Muna.

This visit was made possible by our partnership with

Christine Kendall (https://www.christinerkendall.com/) read her short story, “Jamari.”

Mugo Muna helped our students create a mural based on “Jamari.”

Our students’ art is in our second floor hallway now and will be displayed at the Free Library (1901 Vine St.) on August 22, 2026. All families are invited to Children’s Day at the Free Library, presented by A Book A Day.

A Book A Day believes that literacy and art are everywhere!

A Book A Day is a West Philadelphia nonprofit founded in 2014. Their mission is to provide beautiful, diverse books to students!

They have shared over 10,000 books with schools, libraries, and hospitals across Philadelphia–including with our Moffet school library!

🛝Tuesday May 12: Hancock Playground Meet up! Chat with Mrs. Anderson-a fabulous 4th grade teacher and meet some current Moffet families!
🍽️Thursday May 14: 3:30-6:00-Moffet International Fair Community Dinner-Celebrating our school’s past, present, and future while enjoying a “taste of home” from many parts of the world.
📚Friday May 15th: 9:00am- Kindergarten Open House-tour the school and chat with our amazing Principal!
👋Monday May 18th: 4:00-6:00pm-PreK-5 Play and Mingle-take a tour of the school, pick up some swag and meet new and current Moffet Families!
