The Latin American & Caribbean Studies Program wants to invite you of the book "Precarious Democracy: Ethnographies of Hope, Despair and Resistance in Brazil", co-edited by our dear colleague Dr. Ben Junge (Anthropology/LACS). Ben and two authors that participate in this collection– Carlos Eduardo Henning (Universidade Federal de Goiás) and Sarah LeBaron Von Baeyer (Tufts University)–will be talking about the book and their particular interventions within it. The book brings together ethnographic accounts of how Brazilians from diverse walks of life have experienced and responded to economic precarity, political crisis, and diminishing hopes for the future from 2013 to 2019. Dr. Henning will share with us his work on LGBTTI Elders in Brazil and Dr. LeBaron Von Baeyer will address her work on Brazilians of Japanese descent and their stances vis-a-vis Bolsonaro's rule. The event is co-sponsored by our colleagues and co-conspirators in the Asian Studies Program.

The event is next Wednesday November 10 at 5pm.

Many LACS students met Marco last semester. We are so happy that a leader of the migrant struggle, a person who is always working with and for the community (in the Bronx, in Mexico, in the US) is getting justice. La lucha continúa.
