Lifetime Learning Institute (LLI) is a volunteer, member-run organization. It runs in collaboration with the Office of Continuing Education at SUNY New Paltz. Our courses are offered each fall and spring semester in four o
r eight-week formats. Classes are given in person or via Zoom. Typically, Wednesday courses are offered on the SUNY New Paltz campus, Thursday classes are via Zoom and Friday courses are offered in and around New Paltz. In December 2022, we will announce the addition of a new Winter Session 2023. For current members, this just adds more value to your yearly membership. For new members, you can join for the spring, and it will include the winter and spring sessions. Click on the CATALOG link on our website to view our most recent offerings. Classes are held at a variety of locations, including SUNY New Paltz, Woodland Pond, New Paltz Community Center, and St. Joseph Parish Center, all handicapped accessible with on-site or street parking. Topics range from classic and modern literature; drama (writing and performing); art (appreciation and hands on) and health and science to religion and philosophy; law and history; and music (classical and pop). There are classes that interest the outdoor enthusiast as well as some that interest the more sedentary inclined. The annual membership allows members to attend as many as 6 courses during the Fall and 6 courses during the Spring semesters. As of Spring 2023, the annual membership is $120 per person. Courses are taught by active or retired instructors from high schools and colleges and expert professionals. There are no grades or tests and a college degree is not required to enroll in any of the 34 noncredit courses. Since its inception in the Fall of 2007, LLI has grown from 125 members and 11 courses in its first semester to 277 members and 34 courses pre-COVID.
