Congratulations to this year's ABA Moot Court Team for their performance in the regional round of the National Appellate Advocacy Competition. This year's team members were 2Ls Katherine Ranero, Margo Richard, and Michelle Riviere.
The team argued through three rounds of competition against Cumberland School of Law, Texas A&M University School of Law, and Belmont College of Law, making it through the preliminary rounds and first round of cuts to the sweet 16. Ultimately, the team placed 12th out of 32 teams after being eliminated by a team from William & Mary Law School. Notably, Loyola's team had the 4th highest brief score in the regional round of competition!
3L Megan Uptegrove served as the team coach. Prof. Emily Bishop was the team's faculty advisor, and Henry Gerbracht (Loyola Law Class of 2017) served as its alumni advisor. Evan Bergeron also supported the team in his role as Team Coordinator for the Advocacy Center.
The team worked well together and did a great job of adapting to the all-virtual competition environment!

More great news! Our Southern Classic Trial team competed in their virtual competition this past weekend and they missed the semis by a slim margin! They competed against Tulane, SMU, Ole Miss, and NYU. They swept Tulane, handily took down Ole Miss, and tied NYU in two ballots, losing only one ballot, which kept them from advancing.
Please congratulate Ronnie Cantin, Jana Chebat, Jeremy Gatz-Miller and Cassidy Sanderson, who represented the prosecution (Cassidy and Jeremy) and defense (Ronnie and Jana). They were coached by Erica Navalance. This competition started with 16 teams and the final four included Harvard, Fordham, George Mason, and Texas Tech. We were close!

Congratulations to our Costello Trial Ad Team! Camrie Ventry, Amanda Olmstead, and Forrest Ladd were coached by Nick Bergeron (L ‘17) and won Runner Up Best Defense Team among a field of 32 schools. The team advanced to the semi finals against Georgetown after taking on NYU, Case Western, and University of Houston. We are so proud of these Advocacy Center students!

Congratulations to the winners of the Trial Ad Intramural Competition! Sierra Ambrose, Allyson Colomb, Chris Dommermuth, and Mary Martin took home first place with Brianna Cole, Margo Richard, Lillian Riley, and Cassidy Sanderson coming in a close second. The teams were coached by Camrie Ventry and Ronnie Cantin, respectively. The students impressed the judges with their poise and style. Great job!

As the semester is coming to a close, we feel this would be a perfect time to find a way to give back to our community with a food drive! Details are listed on the flyer below, be sure to give what you can!"

We had two teams competing this past weekend. First, the Constitutional Criminal Procedure Moot Court team competed in the 32nd Annual National Criminal Procedure tournament held virtually. Hunter Ahia and Victoria Pitre exemplified excellent oral advocacy skills in a case involving Miranda warnings. They were coached by third-year law student Jodi Hill and Professor Leslie Shoebotham oversaw their exceptional progress.
Second, the ABA Negotiation Competition was held virtually as well, and Dylan Hoke and Forrest Ladd performed well! They were coached by our recent alumnus Taylor Malinosky and negotiated first on behalf of a small private University hosting an Olympic style event and second on behalf of an organization that sought to have a booth and pass out literature at the events. As Dylan Hoke put it, "We gave the winners of the entire competition a run for their money."
We are very proud of their hard work - they all represented Loyola well.
