Established in 1891, Holy Name of Jesus School is located in the Uptown area of New Orleans, adjacent to Loyola and Tulane Universities. Serving the Greater New Orleans area, the educational philosophy of Holy Name of Jesus School is centered on the belief that faith development is integral to our mission and success. The traditions and charisms of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and the Jesuit Fathers, under whose guidance the school has flourished for over 100 years, continue to guide our mission of educating the whole child, both academically and spiritually.

HNJ was proud to accept the Ice Bucket Challenge in support of ALS and the Team Gleason Foundation. This opportunity was especially meaningful to our community as we have an HNJ parent who is bravely living with ALS.

The challenge provided a wonderful opportunity to teach our students about ALS and remind them of the many ways we can support the Schaefer family and others living with the disease. Our students and faculty also wore red to show their support, even if they weren’t participating in the challenge!

We are incredibly grateful to and to the Schaefer family for joining us and making this experience so meaningful for our HNJ community. ❤️

This week Father Kramer and Father Eddie spent some time visiting classrooms and giving each class a special blessing to start the school year. We are so grateful for their presence in our school community! We pray that all our students and faculty have a wonderful school year! 🐊❤️🙏🏼

🚨SAVE THE DATE!🚨

HNJ’s Open House is officially scheduled for October 15, 2026!

This year we will host two separate events for our prospective families.

Families interested in learning about our 3rd - 7th Grades can join us at 9:15 AM for a general information session followed by a walk through our classrooms and ending with a student-led panel discussion. This is a great opportunity for you to speak with our Administration, see our teachers in action, and hear from our students what being a Gator means to them!

Families interested in our Little Gators through 2nd Grades can sign up for a time slot between 4-7 PM. These families will have a welcome from the Administration followed by guided tours of the school which allow time to hear from our teachers and current families on their experiences at HNJ. Middle School and Enrichment teachers will also be present at this event so you can learn about the full HNJ experience.

Last week our Second Grade students kicked off their first ELA/Social Science Unit! This Module is all about exploring how seasonal change affects people and things around us. They listened to snippets of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, experienced different scents that correspond to the seasons, made chlorophyll paintings by extracting the pigment from leaves, and did a “Book Tasting” to preview the different texts they will explore throughout the unit. What a great way to introduce a new topic!

Congratulations to our recent Alumna, Riley (‘26), and her softball team for winning the 12U Little League State Championship! These girls will be representing Louisiana at Regionals in Waco, TX this weekend!

Tune in to ESPN+ to watch Riley (OF, #4) and her teammates take on New Mexico tomorrow (7/18) at 1pm!
