📚✏️ WE WERE STUDENTS TOO! 🎒🏫

Next up in our We Were Students Too! series is Ms. Kristen Pate, our Director of Educational Technology! 💙💛

This photo takes us back to Ms. Pate’s sophomore year at McDonogh 35. Her biggest thought at the time? She was probably just happy not to be a freshman anymore. 😂

Ms. Pate remembers looking forward to getting involved in extracurricular activities and, of course, spending plenty of time with her friends. From a sophomore excited to get involved in her school community to an educator helping our students and staff use technology to learn, create, and connect, quite a bit has changed since then!

But some things haven’t. Relentless Learners know that school is about more than what happens in the classroom—it’s also about exploring your interests, building relationships, trying new things, and discovering more about yourself along the way. 💙💛

We were students too—and we’re still learning.

Morris Jeff scholars recently participated in the Student Civic Leadership Summit, where they engaged with local judges and explored voting, civic engagement, leadership, and careers in the legal field.

The event organizer described our scholars as “engaged, attentive, and simply a joy to be with.” Mr. Greiner was equally proud of their thoughtful participation, insightful questions, and respect for the speakers.

During the Summit, students spoke directly with several judges and discovered career paths they had not previously considered—including court reporting through voice-writing technology, which especially captured their interest.

Our students represented Morris Jeff with confidence, curiosity, professionalism, and pride. We are so proud of these empowered dreamers, global citizens, equity champions, and relentless learners! 💙💛

🚧 Meet the Mission Makers

Meet Ms. Sara Webb, Upper School English Teacher! 📚💙

Every great school is built by people who lead with purpose, compassion, and connection—and Ms. Sara Webb is one of those Mission Makers.

For Ms. Webb, Morris Jeff is special because of the values that unite our community.

"I love Morris Jeff because of the values we stand for. In the world we live in, it's easy to stand for hate, but Morris Jeff is a community that stands for empathy, caring, and compassion."

As an English teacher, her favorite moments happen when students discover they can think more deeply about a text or a social issue and uncover its meaning for themselves. Just as important, she loves watching students build relationships that help them feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

When she's not in the classroom, Ms. Webb has a creative hobby that's all about connection. She enjoys making friendship bracelets and trading them with fellow fans at concerts. Last year alone, she attended seven major concerts, including Ed Sheeran's surprise pop-up performance in the French Quarter!

Whether she's helping students analyze literature or connecting with new friends through music, Ms. Webb is always building community—one relationship at a time.
