🎬 Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 7th International Short Film Festival on October 8!

Presented by the Language Learning Center in collaboration with Tulane Libraries, this fall’s festival featured In Havanna, Stanbrook, Harbor, and Nation on Fire—films exploring movement, displacement, belonging, and the resilience of people navigating a changing world.

Through stories spanning countries, languages, and cultures, the festival celebrated the power of cinema to foster cross-cultural understanding and connect us through shared human experiences.

đź“š This October, join Tulane University Libraries in celebrating the right to read freely and think critically.

Banned Books Week 2026 is October 4–10, with this year’s theme: “Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read.”

The American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom documented 4,235 unique titles challenged in 2025, the second-highest number ever recorded. Of those titles, 40% represent the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people and people of color. ALA also documented 5,668 books banned from libraries in 2025 — the highest number of titles censored in a single year since American Library Association began tracking this data in 1990.

We were honored to welcome Her Majesty Queen SofĂ­a to Tulane University campus for the opening of Spain, Spanish America, and the Atlantic World in an Age of Revolution at the Doris Z. Stone Latin American Library and Research Center on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Spanning the 1760s–1820s, the exhibition explores the revolutions and independence movements that reshaped Spain and Spanish America. Rare books, manuscripts, maps, newspapers and early constitutions from Tulane’s collections, including Tulane Special Collections and Tulane Law Library, illuminate a pivotal period of political change, sovereignty and nation-building across the Atlantic world.

The opening reception for As Light as Paper, as Firm as Stone: 500 Years of Printing and Building, curated by Maryluna Santos Giraldo, brought together members of the Tulane community to celebrate the new exhibition at Tulane University Special Collections.

The reception offered guests an opportunity to explore the exhibition and consider the fascinating relationship between the printed page and the built environment during the hand-press era. Through rare books, prints, and other materials, the exhibition traces how architectural ideas traveled through print and how printed images, in turn, reflected and influenced the buildings and visual environments around them.

We were especially happy to welcome faculty from Tulane’s Department of Art, as well as staff and colleagues from across the university. A special thank-you to the staff of the Roger Thayer Stone Center for Latin American Studies for stopping by and helping us celebrate. It was wonderful to see so many colleagues, faculty, students, and friends of the Libraries come together to experience the exhibition and connect with one another.

As Light as Paper, as Firm as Stone is on view through May 28, 2027, in the Tulane University Special Collections 2nd Floor Gallery in Joseph Merrick Jones Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

Last week, we celebrated the opening of “100 Years of RHO,” an exhibit honoring a century of Tulane Bands history through photographs, artifacts, stories, and memories in Media Services in Howard-Tilton Memorial Library.

And, naturally, we couldn’t celebrate 100 years of band history without a little music filling the library. 🎶

Current band members, alumni, and friends of RHO came together on the 6th floor for an evening of music, history, drinks, and good company.
