Fall has begun and we’re looking forward to a big year of our own!
Our students are partnering with Grow Dat Youth Farm on a new design-build project, continuing the Small Center’s longstanding commitment to learning through making and community partnership.
We’re beginning new community visioning work with the Housing Authority of New Orleans, bringing residents, students, designers, and partners together to imagine expanded facilities serving Booker T Washington High School and its surrounding
neighbors.
Our gallery will also welcome a new exhibition exploring health and the built environment, highlighting the artists, activists, organizers, and community members whose work supports the health and well-being of New Orleanians through both formal systems of care and the informal networks that sustain our communities every day.
And we’re welcoming John Dwyer as the Small Center’s new director, as we enter our third decade of community-engaged design in New Orleans and begin imagining what the next twenty years of the Center can be.
While we welcome John, we also say a tremendous thank you to the extraordinary eight years of leadership provided by Ann Yoachim at the Center.
Lastly, we’re excited for construction to begin at what will be the Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment’s new Graduate Hub . Located just behind the Small Center on Baronne Street, the new facility will bring more students, faculty, research, fabrication, and creative energy to Central City — while opening up new opportunities for collaboration right outside our door.
As for us, we remain right here at 1725 Baronne Street — designing, building, researching, exhibiting, convening, and working alongside our community partners. With new neighbors arriving next door and a full year of work ahead, we’re excited about what’s coming.
