Albert & Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design Small Center is the community design center of Tulane School of Architecture. We operate at the intersection of design and civic engagement.

The Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design (formerly Tulane City Center) is the community design center of the Tulane School of Architecture. We contend that innovative solutions to the most pressing problems facing our community lie in giving voice to the citizens who live here. Our partner organizations bring their project ideas to us, and we bring our design expertise to bear in

collaboration, supporting New Orleans residents in imagining and pursuing projects that strengthen neighborhoods and contribute to a city shaped by its citizens.

We are pleased to share that the Growing Local Pavilion Won an AIA New Orleans Award of Merit in Small Scale projects! The students that designed and built this project are Cooper Pertchik, Luke Gannon, Ella Comstock, Amanda Martell, Aliyah Murph, Megan Schlief, Juliet Hess, Jonathan Hall & Javier Castillo. Join us in welcoming our new Director, John Dwyer! An Architect, educator and longtime advocate for housing as a catalyst for social change. John enters the position following outgoing Director, Ann Yoachim, who served more than 8 years and let the center through major milestones and initiatives, including our recent 20th anniversary. For Dwyer, the appointment is a homecoming. He served as an Architecture for Humanity Design Fellow nearly 2 decades ago. John shares his gratitude, stating, “In my heart and soul, I feel like I am coming back home and I am filled with gratitude for being given the opportunity.”

We’re Hiring! The Public Interest Design Summer Fellowship provides TuSABE students an opportunity to spend 5 weeks with the Small Center team working on collaborative design projects for community partners. Apply Today!⁠

Applications are due March 31st. The fellowship will run from May 27th to July 2nd and compensation is $4,000 pretax. 3rd year and above TuSABE students from all degree programs are eligible to apply. Please email a Letter of Interest (up to 400 words), resume, and portfolio (10 pages or less) as a PDF to [email protected]. Save the PDF file as “LastNameFirstName_PID2025” and put “PID Fellowship” in the subject line of the email.
