Not every closed door is rejection.

Some doors stay closed because God is protecting you, preparing you, or positioning you for something better.

It’s never just about qualifications.

God looks at readiness, humility, timing — and the heart.

When the door He prepared finally opens,
it won’t require forcing, doubting, or blaming—
only trust, preparation, and grace.

Some doors don’t stay closed because you’re unqualified. Sometimes, they stay closed because your heart isn’t ready for what you’re asking for.

Not every delay is unfair.
Not every “no” is discrimination.
Not every closed door means someone else had an advantage.

Sometimes, the door stays closed because God knows what pride won’t admit —
That readiness is more than credentials.
That entitlement is not preparation.
That complaining is not faith.
That character matters just as much as competence.

Because when the right door opens —
It will come with peace, not pressure.
With favor, not frustration.
With gratitude, not entitlement.

And when it opens —
You won’t just enter a job.
You’ll grow into a calling.

I often wonder about this quote: It's not the destination but the journey. Because it means it's not the outcome or the results that is important but the process!

My thought process as a very results-oriented person was always to ensure I finished the tasks at hand, to be one of the top in my class, and to stay on top. Never mind if I liked what I was doing, never mind if I understood the story, or never mind if I missed the value I had to learn. It was all competition for me.

But the one good thing about my mindset was that I would do my best to see it through every time I put my mind to something. And if there is someone I'd be competing with, it would always be myself.

But, say that again, Process over Results?!

It took me a long time to understand until things made sense. Yes, I am a work in progress, just like all of you.

It was never really the results. It was not the outcome.

Great! you got an A+, 100%, or you graduated Cum Laude or earned a Doctor's degree, but who did you come to be in the process?

Relating to your US applications, at the end of the day, it's not the job offer or visa sponsorships that matter.

The questions that matter are: Are you following your heart? Are you trusting God more? Is in vying for your goal - have you learned from your mistakes and grown through the process? Have you improved your craft? Have you become more giving of yourself to others?

And if you are blessed to get what you want and are now in the US, what have you become?

Is your integrity intact?
Did you become more kinder, loving, and thoughtful?
Did the US application success make you a better person?

Yes, the results only matter if, in the end, you have become a better you.🥰

Pursue not the job offer.
Pursue not the visa.
Pursue not the dream nor your goals.
Pursue only God, instead.
-
He will give you the desires of your heart.
He will lead you in the right direction.
He will make ways for you.
-
Believe it.
-
It is not the pursuit that will make you win.
But by letting go and allowing God to be God,
in your life.
All the time.

Often, we rush and put in all the effort for a goal or a dream.
Ahh, let me stop and put "I" instead of "we."'

I always act on impulse.

I remember rushing to one of the agency offices in Mandaluyong (Philippines) some 18 years ago because they were hiring teachers for the US. I forgot the agency's name - but I remember there was a briefing and the need to pass an exam (or something like that). But I had to register and pay. I don't know if they asked for Php3000 or Php5000. But I paid what they asked because I was eager to go to the USA, the Land of Milk and Honey!

And then I found out I was pregnant with Mimoi (our 2nd and youngest). Goodbye, Php5000!

It would be as if I had already learned my lesson, but the same old impulsive Gemma would always win the day, and then I'd justify my actions as "unfinished business."

If I only stop and heed God's voice within me and seek Him first, it would make the difference.

I like that we are all God's work in progress. I like that we can always "bounce" back after every fall and try again, stronger and more faithful this time.

I pray for all our actions to be God-directed in 2024. (Because) no matter how we rush toward our goals and dreams, all is meaningless unless God is with us - leading, cheering us on, and taking charge!

As the hiring season starts for SY24-25, I pray you find joy in the journey. If teaching in the US is God's will for you, believe all lights are "green."

God Bless, teachers!
