Notre Dame Seminary Notre Dame Seminary Notre Dame Seminary was established on September 18, 1923 by Archbishop John W.

Shaw to form and provide priests for the Church who would be capable of carrying out the mission of the Church in their dioceses and religious communities. The board of trustees, administration, faculty, and staff of Notre Dame Seminary are committed to providing seminarians with the resources and programming required in preparing future priests who are competent, effective, joyful, and loving ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Notre Dame Seminary follows the governing documents on priestly formation namely, norms established by the Code of Canon Law, Pastores Dabo Vobis, and the Program of Priestly Formation.

Yesterday, Archbishop Checchio, presided at the Mass for the Institution of Lectors. The Rite of Institution of Lectors is one of the ministries a seminarian must receive before ordination to the Diaconate and Priesthood. Those given the ministry of Lector are entrusted with reading the Sacred Scriptures during Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours.

Archbishop Checchio instructed these 15 seminarians, “Take this book of Holy Scripture and be faithful in handing on the Word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people.”

The new lectors will now proclaim the readings of Sacred Scripture at Mass for the community.
